I am looking at building a late war Canadian armoured company in 15mm with M4 Shermans and Fireflies. I'll likely skip Battlefront due to price (they have no packs for this setup) as I am looking at several (8-12) vehicles.

I am not sure if I should go QRF or Old Glory (I have the army card). With the card the Old Glory ones are much cheaper but I got some of thier German halftracks and they were pretty poor. I have a fair amount of QRF and I am pretty happy with it.

As these will see a lot of table time I am willing to pay more if the OG ones are poor – anyone have an opinion?

Actually Battlefront does a box set for them with 4 Shermans and a Firefly but it is as you said, expensive. Two boxes and you'd have 8 tanks and 2 Firefly tank-hunters.

Here is a link to the Warstore which has them in stock – it is a nice set. As for going with QRF or Old Glory. I'd go with Old Glory, I've seen them and they are fairly nice castings with a bit of character. The ones I have seen did not have the heavy mold lines or lots of flash either. I guess it depends on who is casting that day. QRF is another good option, but they do cost more than the OG figs, but service from Geoff is excellent. I've gotten plenty from them. I was not impressed with their Early War French Laffly with 47mm gun self-propelled anti-tank gun, however.

What marks are you planning on using?

M4A4 and Firefly was the plan. To be honest I'm not that fussy.

I have two troops of OG models that I'm pretty pleased with.

OK, Sherman V and Firefly VC. The Battlefront boxed set is awfully nice, actually. The Shermans are a little tall, but are covered with good details:

The Old Glory versions may be less expensive, but don't grab me the same way:

Indeed, the Firefly turret looks a little squashed to me.

QRF acknowledges the problems with the Sherman V and VC photos, but there's nothing to look at to compare, unfortunately.

I'm not a BF fanboy, but I do like the additional detail on their British armor.

The Battlefront Sherman/Firefly box set has been withdrawn
so unless you can find a stockist that still has a few you will be out of luck.I know, I have tried to get a box recently………

I'm surprised to hear that you didn't like the OG German half tracks. I had heard good reports about them.

At the moment the ebay market seems quite slack. I've seen painted Battlefront shermans going inexpensively.

"The Battlefront Sherman/Firefly box set has been withdrawn"

The box in the Warstore link was withdrawn. The box in the article link I posted will be released one week from today.

The OG Sherman Firefly that Allen links to looks like a IIc big problem with that is that none were built

aecurtis Fezian12 Sep 2009 5:50 p.m. PST

That's because I was confused, and grabbed the image for CD105, which Skytrex labels as "Sherman Firefly Tank" (not further identified). And that's right, you don't want it.

The correct OG/CD/Skytrex model is CD134a:

…which has its own issues.

Cheers Allan – glad to see this is coming out soon. Looks like my FLGS might be able to sort me out after all.

I purchased the BF boxed set, it is okay, but the castings and the track fit weren't great, you'll need a good exacto knife and or a decent file, and the tread detail on the end tracks isn't great. I had extras from the M-10 box so they look good finished. The half fig for the split hatch doesn't match the optional fifty cal., not a great kit. I have seen the OG Shermans, and they are less expensive and about the same quality. I only have one Isreali I-Sherman, but I like their quality if cost isn't an object.

Tod:
You might look into Quality Castings M4A4`s and Fireflies. They are sold by Old Glory but are not The Old Glory Command Decision line. The models are clean and crisp and very well detailed. They are slightly smaller than the Old Glory Command Decision range and the Battle Front vehicles but they look really good. Pick up the BF track and wheel pack and you can make them look outstanding. They retail at about $ 8.00 U.S. per vehicle. They used to offer platoon packs but I`m not sure if the still do. They are available from warweb.com.

Quality Casting's old range is sold by Old Glory 15s, who are a separate company to Old Glory Corp. The 15mm side of the Old Glory business was sold off to form Old Glory 15s some years ago, but Old Glory retained the Command Decision line.
