Not much discussion on TMP about Wargames Factory Colonial British figures. Aside from Old Glory, they seem an inexpensive way to get started with Colonial gaming. What do folks think about the WF Brits? Good accuracy? Do they take a lot of work to assemble? If they take as much work to assemble as the Romans that were on sale, my hands won't be able to handle them. Is one box enough for a unit in TSATF or Soldiers Companion? (I own the latter and am ordering TSATF.) Price is always important to me, but so is decent quality. Would you buy the WF plastics over the Old Glory for the same price? Obviously, I'll have to buy figures from other companies, so how does WF match with Old Glory, Empress, Foundry, and Askari? Thanks. |

Being used to metals, I'd say they take a lot of work to assemble. Separate arms and heads. I don't know quite enough about the period to judge their accuracy, but they seem reasonable to me for "red coats". One box will get you 20 guys, which is enough for a TSATF unit. The only difficulty is that they are all "line" troops, and do not include any purely officer-ish figures. I don't have a good solution yet, but I'll probably save up some money and order some commanders from Empress Miniatures. |

My experience of them is purely limited to those images I've seen in print in the magazine ads. I think they looked a little odd. However generally speaking you need rather more opposition than Brits so you may feel you could splash out a bit with your Imperial troops since you don't need many. For example my Sudan collection has about 110 Mahdists but only just over 1/3 their number of British opposition that, even in metal, wasn't too painful on the wallet. Right over to those who have first hand experience. |

Any firearm-armed figure is always a little tricky to assemble- you have to glue on both arms at once to make sure the left arm both attaches to the torso at a realistic angle and gets the hand in the correct place on the rifle. I'm happy with the quality. I think they're better than my OG Boer War British (especially the faces), but maybe not as good as Perry. One box (20) is a unit in TSATF. From memory I'd say they match with Perry, OG, and Askari. I don't have any Empress. While they match with my Foundry Pathans, I don't have any Foundry Zulu War British. They are too big for the Foundry NWF British I have. But if you're considering Foundry then you are hopefully already prepared for their random scale/availability/price way of selling figures. Rich |

The British are some of the earliest efforts from WF and they show it. I have a bunch I got for free at an HMGS con and I can't bring myself to mess with them at all because they are so soft in the detail department. I would gladly pay whatever price I had to in order to work with nice, crisp, metal models. YMMV! |

I will hopefully have some finished for Bill next week; then it's a matter of when he can show them off. Assembly isn't that bad; you just have to take care. Lack of detail can be overcome. You'll see how they compare sizewise with some others. Allen |

From the pictures of painted models I've seen I'd say they don't look too bad. |

I like them. Didn't find them too hard to assemble ? Arms, head and pith helmet on head (or in hand, etc.)Some extra heads have glengarrys. I used a black tree officer and painted stripes on for the nco's. I like the convertability, as some were done up as VSF attachments with flame throwers and rocket launchers (cadian bits). Paul |
