Hi all,

Just a quick question. I want to base some old GW terminators on nice deckplate type bases like these:

Now, the question is, am I right to just snip off the tabs on my figures and glue them to the resin base, pinning if necessary, or is there a more secure way?

Cheers,
Rab

If your terminators are plastic then superglue under the feet should be enough. If they're metal then pinning is definitely the way go go, considering how big and heavy termies are.

Whether you pin or not, one way to improve the fit is to place a small bit of epoxy putty under the feet before gluing, this will fill out any irregularities and give a tighter, more solid fit.

Putty under the feet! Dang, why didn't I think of that? you learn something new every day- Thanks for the tip, Spectacle.

I pin every figure, plastic or metal. It just feels a little better knowing I have that extra security.

Cheers, Spectacle, wouldn't have thought of the putty.

Greenstuff and superglue – what I call the 'smoosh' method. Holds just about everything together!

I have been doing these for years and have never had a problem with gluing models to the bases and them coming loose..

The bases work better if they are poreses bases (resin, plastic), I have always sanded the feet flat and glued the bottoms (no paint) directly to the resin so contact is metal to unpainted surface of the base. The super glue strands into the base (microscopically) and forms a nice bond – the microscopic strands are sort of like little anchors..

If you glue painted model to painted base the paint acts as a barrier and it does not bond properly.

The bases look really nice so they should look great when you are complete.

Good luck

When pinning to a base I make the holes in the base just slightly larger than the pin going in them….just slightly. Makes for easier insertion of the pins

Are there 30mm tech style bases out there?

Mister Rab11 Sep 2009 12:20 p.m. PST

Yup – saw some good ones on ebay UK:

Bless you Mister Rab -I've bought from fenris before -they're great.
Good prices on laser cut bases.

Just looked at those 30mm bases on the E-Bay link above. They look excellent, so I've ordered a set :)

Good link there Mister Rab.

Plan C for scenic bases (at least for GW or Privateer press minis with big feet) is to get some 1/16" (1.5mm) diameter Rare Earth Magnets in addition to pins. I'm plotting this for my Space Hulk termies.

It doesn't work for Infinity or Anima Tactics minis, since their feet are much smaller (ie, actually proportional to their bodies).
