Having spent time trying to find a rule set without hexes as trying to find a hex mat got more dificult than would seem resonable, we found these, however they are recomended for only one or two planes. We were looking to run flights of planes, is it possible to?

thanks, sorry for the long winded and not very direct question.

Hi Jon,

You can do that by just rolling for spotting and initiative by flight, or pair, rather than for each aircraft.

Once the formations split up though, it will begin to take more time, if you roll spotting for each plane. You could forgo that, and just assume spotting is automatic, when in a furball, if desired, or only roll to spot the aircraft you want to attack.

Keeping track of multiple jets climbing, diving, and turning, and managing their energy levels, etc. will be challenging, not to mention the altitudes.

I can help with the latter, if you use dice, or our 3-D Flight Stands to track that a bit more easily:

C21, which is two-dimensional, is probably better suited to flying flights and squadrons of aircraft, but there is no reason it can't be done with Clash, if you have more time, or simplify/eliminate some rules.

I hope that helps.

Air War C21 by Wessex Games or Mach Speed Hunters, if they are still available, are both sets aimed at larger scale battles. I would reccomend AWC21 myself but several other airheads like Hunters.

thanks, do they require a hex mat or can they be played on the table, who carries them?

thanks

As I pointed out in another thread – you don't need a hex mat to use a hex-based game – just hex bases and some hex-shaped templates for measuring.

The thing is, i quite like hexes. I dont know why…but i would use the marking of the vertices only method. i wouldnt use hexes in every game system, but i would in some.
