Here are the results of a game I ran at G3 Con in Plano on Saturday. The game took place in my Western town of Leadville:

picture

The game was actually two gunfights. The first involved a fight between two factions in town who were spurred to action by a controversial court ruling. At the outset one faction started at the lower end of town by the entrance. The rival faction started out on two side streets one by the hotel and one at the top end of town (we'll call them the Up-towners) The Marshall and John Hill the undertaker, both uptowners) made their way to the side of the hotel to wait for the action.

picture

They didn't have long to wait as Billy the Kid, who had been waiting around the corner, soon jumped out and started shooting. Meanwhile Deadeye Denton sneaked up behind the pair and landed a headshot on John Hill. Fortunately for the undertaker the wound turned out to be merely a graze. The enraged mortician turned and pumped a a slug into each of the backshooting cowboy's arms.

picture

The wounded Deadeye Denton threw himself back against the wall and took no more action for the remainder of the fight. Meanwhile the Marshall managed to empty his gun about three times at Billy without success. John Hill then turned siz-gun blazing and dealt Billy a fatal head shot.

picture

On the other side of town things took a little longer to get going. Preacher made his way slowly around the Saloon and up against the wall of the Undertaker where he exchanged a couple of shots with Butch Cassidy who had made his way up the boardwalk.

Manuel, owner of the Cantina, raced out behind the shops but Harvey the barkeep sneaked up on him and fired a load of buckshot in his back and was rendered unconscious. Butch and Harvey remained the only characters on their still in good order. The Marshall fired across the street at Butch seriously wounding him in the leg. Hearing his partner go down Harvey fled. As the only enemy left on the board was badly wounded the Up-towners were declared the obvious victors. We gained a couple more players and began again.

A few characters switched sides but the scenario was the same.

The action mainly occurred near the hotel yard near the bath house.

Here there was plenty of backshooting and it was not long before several characters from both sides were lying in the dust badly wounded. The Frisco Kid, the town Sheriff, and Hoss made there way to the action. Both finished off an opponent with a fatal gutshot (one at long range) much to the delight of the girl who was playing them.

picture

The sheriff was dealt his death blow by Deadeye Denton and Hoss was wounded. The Up-townsmen were forced to take a courage check and despite their successes failed and were routed. All in all it went very well and everyone enjoyed themselves.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who has answered the many questions I have had regarding not only convention gaming but also gaming and the Old West in general.

Do descriptions of how a game played out really belong in the Conventions forum?

Kampfgruppe Cottrell31 Aug 2009 6:53 a.m. PST

Numbers
Sounds like a good place for it to me if it was played at a convention.

Gamer
Saw the game and looked like allot of fun. I was the Weird WWII guy who stole your table. Hope to see you again next time.

Seems about the right place to me, too, since it was at a convention.

What rules did you use, Gamer?

La Long Carabine31 Aug 2009 10:01 a.m. PST

Wish I had been there. Looks like it was a great game.

I'll second the Conventions as an okay place for convention game after action report.

Or do we need yet another board. :-)

IMO "conventions" is about the "business" of conventions, not the "content" except as the content relates to putting one on.

Game reports should be in the particular historical board area.

At least label the subject "AAR" or such.

Greyalexis31 Aug 2009 12:59 p.m. PST

yeah otherwise it could take up a space where people are going to argue about others cons that I cant afford to goto

Mr Brightside31 Aug 2009 2:47 p.m. PST

Ok, will be more specific with my title. Sorry.

Brian, thanks. I plan to be at the next one.
Mjkerner, I use the Rules with No Name

PaintsByNumbers doesn't seem to like it when some body paints out side the lines. I'll make sure to post all of my convention after action reports here in the future. IMO an after action report of a con game works just fine here.

Looks like a fun game, pardner. Thanks for posting it (here, there, or anywhere).

Hey Gamer with No Name. Were the buildings printed on card stock or regular paper?

Mr Brightside01 Sep 2009 8:01 p.m. PST

They were on cardstock.

Thanks MMitchell.
