In regards to Coppens 1st Battalion of zouaves & the infamous B company "Tiger Rifles" under Wheat's command – I know BOTH units wore dark blue jackets but I am looking for definitive proof on the tombeaus. I've only seen two photos of Coppens Zouaves at Pensacola and I can can etermine the present of tombeaus on their jackets. Troiani shows them on his illustration. Does a surviving jacket or another photo somewhere confirm tombeaus on the enlisted jackets?
As to the Tiger Rifles, I know that the remains from Corcoran's & O'Brien's reinternment did not reveal any tombeau information. Troiani's plate lacks tombeaus but Redwood's drummer sketch shows them. Second hand information I have says there is/was a photo of a Tiger still wearing his zouave jacket WITH tombeaus after the unit was disbanded. Has anything come to light since the Centreville reburials to support tombeaus on Tiger Rifle zouave jackets? Thanks

As the name says"Tiger Rifle Sgt.". We have had them on the fronts of our jackets since I started reenacting in 1982. I don't think you can go wrong by putting them on your figures. As always "ZA". (Zouave Attitude) TIG

Thanks Tiger Rifle Sgt and I am inclined to include them based on what I have found out to date. I'm wondering if anything new has come to light since the Centreville investigation and reinternment. Seems I heard somewhere that another Tiger jacket may have been discovered.

To revisit my original message, I meant to say that in the Pensacola photos I "COULD NOT determine the presence of tombeaus" for Coppen's Zouaves, but Troiani included them. I place a lot of confidence in his research.

If I remember correctly, Troiani's last painting of a Tiger he left them off. I have only painted 54mm Tigers but this is how I paint them. Top to bottom. Fez is a bright red and I use this same color for the shirt. Tassel on the fez is the same navy blue as the jacket. The trim on the jacket is a deep red also used for the sash. The pantaloons are cream with a deep medium blue stripe, with a a thinner line between them. (A good representation of bed ticking)Gaiters are off white canvas with glass buttons, boots are light brown. All leather is black. The rifle is walnut, with a browned barrel. I forgot, socks are blue and white stripe above the gaiters. And I wasn't aware of any Tiger jackets found since the unearthing. Also, rank stripes are infantry blue on the cuff.
