Self-explanatory.

Mmmmmm, doughnuts….

Dan Cyr24 Aug 2009 8:14 a.m. PST

Glazed cake doughnuts, maybe, but only with cold milk.

What sort of milk do you use – I'd recommend skimmed, as full cream usually looks out of scale.

The holes can be catapulted onto enemy troops, thereby clogging their arteries ?

Grizwald24 Aug 2009 8:27 a.m. PST

Allen,
Stay where you are. Don't move. The Men in White Coats will be around shortly… :-)

Objective rewards…your troops take an objective, you get a doughnut…you lose it to a counterattack, your opponent gets to make you regurgitate it!

Would make for more interesting gaming and better defensive planning!

wink

Don't be silly.

They are strictly reserved for space games, they make great asteroids.

aecurtis Fezian24 Aug 2009 8:39 a.m. PST

I've heard of hemorrhoid doughnuts, but never asteroid doughnuts.

Allen

GreatScot7224 Aug 2009 8:48 a.m. PST

I've considered using baked goods for take-and-hold objectives. Wouldn't a 1:1 scale chocolate frosted doughnut be a much more appealing objective than some unconvincing styro-foam hill? I mean, really, wouldn't the average gamer fight harder if he can eat what he conquers?

But since the topic bears on 15mm doughnuts, I will stow this thought. I don't want to be guilty of hijacking Mr. Curtis' thread. grin

aecurtis Fezian24 Aug 2009 8:51 a.m. PST

Please. I encourage you to do so.

Top Gun Ace24 Aug 2009 9:11 a.m. PST

Of course.

You have surely heard of "an army marches on its stomach", so they are just more tasty provisions for the masses.

highlandcatfrog24 Aug 2009 9:11 a.m. PST

Now you've made me hungry. I'll see your doughnut and raise you a homemade blueberry muffin, with genuine Maine blueberries.

The Monstrous Jake24 Aug 2009 9:12 a.m. PST

I generally prefer games that include, if not focus on, chocolate-frosted raised doughnuts.

In fact, from now on I think I'll start avoiding games that don't involve chocolate-frosted raised doughnuts.

aecurtis Fezian24 Aug 2009 9:12 a.m. PST

They're stopping the Micmac blueberry pickers at the border now, you know, despite their First Nation status.

highlandcatfrog24 Aug 2009 9:23 a.m. PST

Somehow that doesn't surprise me. frown

I'm o.k. though. I've eaten all the evidence.

momoiro kakaricho24 Aug 2009 9:25 a.m. PST

The images are blocked from work, so I don't know if they are still there, but: link

JamesonFirefox24 Aug 2009 9:27 a.m. PST

Donuts of any sort are useful for any scale game, not just 15mm. Especially if accompanied by a pot of good strong tea.

They also make a good break snack when painting.

James
(who is sadly lacking in decent donut vendors where he lives)

GarnhamGhast24 Aug 2009 10:18 a.m. PST

OK AECurtis, now you're just being silly.

Dave Crowell24 Aug 2009 10:20 a.m. PST

I prefer 40mm donuts, the 15mm ones are too small to be really satisfyin. Except for Timbits Mmm….

And yes there realy are 15mm donuts link

Griefbringer24 Aug 2009 10:34 a.m. PST

They are strictly reserved for space games, they make great asteroids.

I would rather use them as space stations.

aecurtis Fezian24 Aug 2009 10:47 a.m. PST

"OK AECurtis, now you're just being silly."

No, really.. They're stopping the Micmacs at the border now, despite the Jay Treaty.

Plynkes24 Aug 2009 10:47 a.m. PST

Big bully. He's picking on harmless nitwits now.

By the way, you're doing it all wrong. One of the words needs to be pointlessly capitalized, and you haven't used enough question marks.

GarnhamGhast24 Aug 2009 11:00 a.m. PST

But what about the Ferengi biscuit embargo?

aecurtis Fezian24 Aug 2009 11:08 a.m. PST

What do you Mean, Plynkes???

Plynkes24 Aug 2009 11:11 a.m. PST

Sorry, I meant every letter of one word pointlessly capitalized.

And I didn't mean anything, especially the crack about nitwits. The nitwits in question are entirely hypothetical, and therefore it does not constitute a personal attack.

The Jim Jones Cocktail Hour24 Aug 2009 11:29 a.m. PST

More of an impersonal attack then?

Chocolate donuts do have their uses but the Italian style custard cream ones have far more utility. My wife is readily bribed with them. They can be used to purchase painting time or distract her whilst I smuggle in new toys. Important tactical lessons can be learned here, trading space for time. Were I foolish enough to leave a donut on a table of any kind it's value as a terrain objective would be likely measured in seconds.

The Jim Jones Cocktail Hour24 Aug 2009 11:32 a.m. PST

Can anyone suggest the right Coat d'Armes paint shade for chocolate donuts? I only use Vallejo.

aecurtis Fezian24 Aug 2009 11:37 a.m. PST

Please pay attention. We are talking about chocolate-FROSTED doughnuts, not chocolate doughnuts. Those attempting to steer this thread off course will be miniaturized and sent to populate the doughnut holes that circle Zeta Reticuli.

The Jim Jones Cocktail Hour24 Aug 2009 11:44 a.m. PST

Sorry Allen, I subscribe the to popular TMP methodolgy of randomly selecting a word from the thread title (usually the one whose spelling most closely approximates English) and then wittering on in an abtuse manner about a related topic nearer to my heart. I find this an excellent way of:

1)Displaying my sparkling wit and wisdom.

2) Demonstrating that the aquisition of my archane knowledge has been worth the trade off in terms of rudimentary social skills.

3) Muddying the water of the thread and creating distractions thus defeating the intent of the original poster.

Tried and tested formula.

The Jim Jones Cocktail Hour24 Aug 2009 11:46 a.m. PST

Of course it has lead to me responding to a lot of threads about 'A', 'the' and 'what'.

Black Cavalier24 Aug 2009 12:23 p.m. PST

Well, I'd think the only appropriate use for "raised" donuts would be in vampire or zombie games.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP24 Aug 2009 12:36 p.m. PST

I once ran a Gamma World adventure completly set within a domain ruled over by glazed doughnuts in which other doughnuts (with the player's assisstance) sought to obtain a state of freedom from their oppression….

:-)

Top Gun Ace24 Aug 2009 3:17 p.m. PST

This one is a bit small, but in a post-apocalyptic world, could be used as the main goal, since it might be the last chocolate covered, raised doughnut in existence:

rebelminis.com/mallcops.html

Chocolate covered, glazed doughnuts are even better.

Ron W DuBray24 Aug 2009 4:45 p.m. PST

reminds me of games of epic we played back in the day were we placed 200 M&M on the table and the armory that had the most behind their lines/ in their zone of control would win the battle, you also got to eat the ones you controled at the end of the game.

Jamesonsafari24 Aug 2009 5:02 p.m. PST

I think maybe Der Alte Fritz ought to use donuts as objectives in his next Seven Year's Picnic game with his daughter.

StarfuryXL524 Aug 2009 5:08 p.m. PST

Only if they're fried in bacon fat.

Brent2751124 Aug 2009 5:57 p.m. PST

My local Game Shop has a Krispy Kreme next door to it. Gentlemen, the Game Connection is the greatest place on earth, or at least n NC.

Sounds more like a poker night than a wargame. I'll see you one chocolate frosted donut and raise you two more!

Dave Crowell24 Aug 2009 7:58 p.m. PST

Try the streudel.

Whatisitgood4atwork25 Aug 2009 1:19 a.m. PST

Shell craters? Bug holes? Stargates? Artillery blast templates? Snacks? Sorry. Ignore the last suggestion. Just being silly.

The Jim Jones Cocktail Hour25 Aug 2009 3:18 a.m. PST

I think the flaw in this particular pastiche is that Allen failed to answer himself repeatedly throughout the thread. The key to these sort of things is to approximate a conversation with yourself.

Cke1st25 Aug 2009 8:22 a.m. PST

Should they be painted dunkelgrun?

Cke1st25 Aug 2009 8:24 a.m. PST

Actually, I worry about this. One of the big donut sellers in this area is Honeydew. And every married gamer knows that the "honeydew" list is a gamer's arch-enemy.

Steve Hazuka25 Aug 2009 8:47 a.m. PST

Best donuts on the planet are made right here in North Branch Mich. North Branch Bakery makes real donuts not those nasty grease ball created at Krispy Krap.

Krispy Kreme is the GW of the donut world

And for once the larger the scale the better when it comes to donuts.

aecurtis Fezian25 Aug 2009 9:08 a.m. PST

Good heavens. The thread has been adapted by The Bug.

aecurtis Fezian25 Aug 2009 9:08 a.m. PST

My goodness! You're right.

aecurtis Fezian25 Aug 2009 9:08 a.m. PST

Better, Jim?
