HMGS-South: Sept.24th, 2009: HURRICON in Cocoa Beach Fl.

hmgs-south.com/hmgs

The Thursday night challenge lives on! The Southern Miniatures Gamers, S.M.G. ( soflgamers.org ) have dropped the gauntlet on the Jacksonville Garrison ( rapiercon.com ) in a true North vs. South conflict. It is S.M.G.'s honor to host this years "Thursday Night Challenge". Our highly esteemed terrain Guru Bill Moreno will run one of his favorite American Civil War battles, "Bloody April". "One of the most dynamic and interesting battles of the ACW, Shiloh featured a surprise attack, Timber clad naval support, defeat and victory for both sides and the death of a commanding General. Come re-fight this epic struggle. Fire & Fury Classic". The terrain has been painstakingly researched and beautifully recreated by Bill Moreno who has written many outstanding Fire & Fury ACW scenarios as well as a scenario book. This table and the figs are NOT to be missed. Unfortunately the "Thursday Night Challenge" is an invitation only game, but…Bill will run this scenario "Bloody April" again all day Saturday starting with session 4, 9AM-1PM and continuing with session 5, 2PM-6PM, and is OPEN for ALL who want to play. You don't want to miss one of Bill Moreno's games!

The battle lines have been drawn, sides have been chosen and S.M.G. from South Fl. will portray the Rebs while The Jax Garrison form North Fl. will portray the Yanks, fitting eh? The South will rise again and the North will have to buy the beers. Let the trash talking begin!

We are ready for you this time Seccesh! Bring it on. I am giving alarm clocks to all my troops this year so no one has to take their damn regiment back to Ohio.

Thanks to all! A Terrain update:
I am 70% finished with the terrain, which was started on Saturday. The Timberclads (Lexington and Tyler) were already done. There are a number of special scenario rules I wrote a few years back (OK – 10 years ago) when I last ran this scenario at Cold Wars. The terrain is rough, but its cool!

What a great way to start HURRICON! Plenty of pick up games and chances to meet old friends as well. And the chance to once again see these two groups (more bad blood between them then the Crips and the Bloods) go at it over one of Bill's magnificant battlefields is worth the price of admission alone!

I do wish to pass on to those who may be attending for the first time there is NO truth to the rumor that Jeff will be handing out actual weapons to the participants to resolve battles vice the good old tried and true method of rolling dice.

We have over 100 game events already with more coming in everyday. We have a fantastic location right on the beach in beautiful Cocoa Beach Florida. We are close to Kennedy Space Center and only a 45-60 minute drive from the attractions in Orlando.

Escape the frigid North and come on down!
