I'm dusting off my old 10mm ACW figures & getting them ready for battle
after some initial research I like the idea of using Piquet's "Field of Battle" or Too Fat Lardie's "They Couldn't Hit an Elephant
has anyone played both? Any opinions? Which set played "tighter", and by that I mean with less ambiguity & smoother mechanics? Both seem to use asymmetric activation for units. Any opinion on which is easier to pick up & play (and teach other gamers)? Which requires more units to give a proper game? Thanks all for any input! |

Hi, I have played several ACW battles with FOB. The rules are dirt simple allowing you to focus on the tactical battlefield. There is even an excellent unit generator at the Yahoo group. You simply enter the Unit name and it will generate the stats and Commanders along with Morale chips for your command. You also get to chose whether the army is Union or Confederate and yaer and theater of action. Makes prepping for a game only a few minutes. I have made a set of small counters with all the unit ratings on them. Cut them out and sticky tac to the command stand and you really won't need much else on the tabletop. link
We have played several scenarios. Rebs defending, Union on defensive with relief Divisions arriving later in the game and so on. These are hands down one of the BEST sets of rules I have ever gamed in almost 30 years! You can run a Division vs Division or Corps sized actions. The rules will handle it and play quickly. I really can't praise these rules too highly! Thanks, John |

Haven't played FOB, but have played many games of TCHAE. Brilliant rules that give a very realistic feel. The Lardy Yahoo Group is also very active (and very supportive) if you have queries |

I have both sets of rules and they are both excellent. I'd be happy to play a game with either set. |
