For the first couple of years of the Old Glory Army, they released the free miniature every month. I think there were cowboys and pirates. Now, they offer a free batch of their nice Blue Moon miniatures.

I don't hear much about the free miniatures anymore. In fact, I don't even know what they're offering at the moment. I'm up for renewal on my card.

Do you prefer the monthly singles or the batch of free miniatures?

jeffrsonk17 Aug 2009 9:26 a.m. PST

I prefer the monthly figures, but I completely understand why OG shifted away from that. It was just a massive undertaking every month.

The only reason I didn't renew my OG Army membership this year was the economy.

combatpainter Fezian17 Aug 2009 9:34 a.m. PST

Been using it for years. Great way to collect an army.

raylev317 Aug 2009 9:46 a.m. PST

Yeah, it's forced me to spend way too much money on miniatures! :-)

ZeroTwentythree17 Aug 2009 10:07 a.m. PST

I don't really have a preference. I just signed up for the OG Army for the first time this year, so got my figures all at once. I don't think monthly figures would have had much impact on me. If they can save a few bucks and a lot of hassle by not doing the monthly thing, I'm fine with that.

I would like to mention that, like raylev3 above, I've spent more on miniatures than I previously had plans for. I've taken a second look at some ranges that I had previously thought looked interesting but passed up.

I've been a member for a couple of years and just gave away the figures because I don't have anything to do with 25's. The economics of the deal are so good, I can't afford not to take advantage of the 40% discount with my savings each year being a multiple of the $50 USD fee.

Are they still doing the Free figure thing? Or the pick a figure to be cast drawing?

Thanks,

John

Were are presently working on a nice set figures that will pleasantly surprise those who are part of the Old Glory Army. The Old Glory army is doing fine and is constantly growing in membership, as we offer a wide variety of miniatures and products for the gamer at reasonable.

Be watching for the figures, as we will be making announcement as soon as they are available.

KnightTemplarr17 Aug 2009 11:10 a.m. PST

I actually like all the figures at once If it is a theme I like I can get them all painted up. If it is a theme I don't care about I can give them to a buddy who can use them.

avidgamer17 Aug 2009 11:28 a.m. PST

I actually have not received any figures since two years ago. The last I received were the pirate figs but that isn't a big deal with me. Someone told me the newer figs are cowboys. I'm not interested in these either. The best thing is the discount. That's worth everything!

leidang17 Aug 2009 11:35 a.m. PST

I've never worried too much about the free figs. I've just done it for the discount. The free figures have always been outside my interest area anyway.

bactrian517 Aug 2009 4:02 p.m. PST

In for the third year I imagine – 1 pirate set, the cowboys and the Blue moon. Sold them all to a friend to help offset the $50.00 USD fee. They're nice but I really do it for the discounting. Heavily into 28mm ECW now so it's working out. Only wish they offered the discount on the Sash & Saber stuff.

mrwigglesworth17 Aug 2009 4:22 p.m. PST

First year for me.
I also wish the S&S were on discount.

CPBelt17 Aug 2009 4:28 p.m. PST

Agree about the S&S stuff.

I renewed my membership at Historicon. Personally don't care about the free figures. What I value is the discount and great figures I've been able to buy. WWII last year and this. Also, the service from OG is the best, getting everything in my order and not having to call to straighten things out. Friends are pitching in for another order for just a few more packs, heh, heh.

I am glad I became a member. I have the sweetest Saxon's/Normans around and am tempted by so many of the product lines. I am drooling at the Fort Zindernof 10mm stuff…

John the OFM17 Aug 2009 7:49 p.m. PST

I have it on good authority that the new figures will be The War of Jenkins' Ear Bavarian Horse Grenadier Kettle Frummers, in 2mm, 3mm, 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 18mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, 30mm, 32mm, 35mm, 40mm and 54mm.
Both left handed and right handed.

Left handed 10mm TWOJE Bavarian Horse Grenadier Kettle Drummers? I'm all over it! Are these pre or post the great Schadenfreud reforms of Von Trout?

John the OFM17 Aug 2009 8:33 p.m. PST

Don't forget that von Trout's reforms consisted of recruiting exclusively left handed Kettle Frummers, so all are accounted for.
Except the Bishopric Leib Regiment, but who cares about "The Archbishop's Own Sodomites"? According to Schleich, they never saw action, except at Oktoberfest.

sma194118 Aug 2009 4:31 a.m. PST

I rejoined the OGA at Historicon and promply made back the $50 USD fee and more purchasing 2nd Generation ACW figures. The free figures, whatever they are, are just frosting on the cake.

vojvoda18 Aug 2009 4:47 a.m. PST

My Sub expired this year as I did not attend CW or Hcon. I would have renewed despite I have no interest in the Blue Moon figures ATT. I will renew when I attend Fall In! just to save on some big purchases I have planned for next year.

Darn. I was hoping someone would finally do the kettle drummers. Or even kettle strummers. I refuse to have the kettle frummers in my army because of the unsavoury way they treated the regimental parakeets.
