Anyone have any paint color recommendations for painting terries in the 'very British Civil War"? I hear green with brown belts, khaki with brown or khaki belts, green with khaki belts, putees of every variation, etc etc.

Looking at books, pictures and even tobacco cards, I can't get a straight answer. I know, 'things were in flux' etc. But honestly, what would be most common? And what have other done in painting them?

Thanks.

Territorials in action should look indistinguishable from regulars, some pouches etc.. might be older issue but the aim was for the TA to be an integral part of the army.

Certainly, the TA divisions that deployed to France as part of the BEF in 1940 looked pretty much like the rest of the BEF

To represent my territorials Im using late WWI uniform. nice with the caps. therefore painting as WWI khaki uniform. This also helps to distingiush then from the regulars. Also a nice excuse to use those old pompous WWI general figure types. Peter pig do some nice WWI stuff in 15mm.

You can get away with some variations in color, but should be pretty much identical to WW1 kit. The "real" 1938 kit probably wouldn't have been available widely in the VBCW world.

You could get away with a mixture of army and police uniforms, a kind of Black and Tan look.

OK, the Khaki colors I've got references for, thanks.

So, would green uniforms have brown belts/green puttees or brown belts/puttees or khaki belts/puttees? I can't find a consistent reference for the green uniforms. And what paints would anyone recommend for that shade of green? How deep is the green color? Again, my reference sources are not consistent at all (compare website pics with renactors with tobbacco cards, and you'll see my dilemma).

thanks!
