I've been sculpting a 1/48 British infantryman between jobs this week, and as he is nearly completed, I spotted something. His height. He started as a 36mm armature, 1/48th scale, but now he's in a running pose, leaning forward, legs bent, he measures about 29mm to the top of his helmet. I've not got any 28mm WW2 figures; I know they are technically 1/56th or thereabouts, but how tall are they? I'm just wondering if I can successfully mix my sculpts with some 28mms until I get them all done. That way I can do some gaming in the meantime. If the difference isn't huge, I'll give it a go. |

Depends on the make, some can be up to 33mm tall, about the same size as plastic 1/48th figures |

Works fine for me, especially if you use the thicker slotta-bases. |

You may want to take a look at this illustrative side-by-side comparison done by NapNuts: link While the 1:48 and 28mm figures are comparable in height, the 28mm's exaggerated head and limbs make them look very much out of place (or vice versa). I wouldn't mix 1:48 and 28mm infantry, if I were you. |

Thanks Black Tower, that's about what I thought, heightwise. Top Gun Ace, good point about bases – although I like to have all the figures on the same style of base – I'm a bit anal about things like that! Kraussian, great link – really illustrates the differences. And unfortunately for me makes the 28mm figures look, well, a bit naff! I'd not realised how far off the proportions were before. I reckon I'll stick with my Tamiya plastics, and gradually replace them with my own sculpts over time. |

Brigade Games carries North Star's 1/48 range for British, Americans, Germans and Russians. You may take a look and see if you like them: link link |

As someone already said, it is the girth and not the height that makes them a problem. they are shorter but about 2-3 times the girth. because of the girth of the models I use mostly 1:50th scale models because when the models are placed in the Vehicles such as tanks, Armored cars and such they look way to big for the smaller vehicles. I have seen tamiya compared to the 28mm WWII metals out there and they are skinnier but about the same height but other 1:48th minis have been taller. You may want to avoid the 28mm ranges with your 1:48th if yours are true scale. |

Anyone have any idea of how the 1/48 Ansell WW2 figs measure up against Tradition WW2 30mm. Brigade games lists them as 36mm. I used to own some of the 30mm Tradition WW1 figs as well as a few Clive Knight WW1 30mm and the WW2 figures look really close in overall look of the pose/style. If I remember correctly, these were actually closer to 33-34mm. |
