I was wondering about the quality of the 1/300 scale planes out there? Is one manufacturer better than another?

Kinda like a MSD figs vs. Socita Grendel vs. Raiden vs. Heroics-Rocs vs. WiM vs. CiC ?

Any info would be great!

I just got a ton of Socita Grendels and Heroics – Rocs, but I need to expand my flights, so I want to get some great looking planes to fill in the gaps…

Raiden are the best for quality and value.

Museum Miniatures are also good value and nice sculpts but can have some minor casting issues (easily fixed)

GHQ and CinC are nice but very expensive.

Depends on the plane, but overall MSD, Raiden GHQ and CinC are finer than the others. I like Scotia as they are a little less expensive but have decent enough lines. I find H&R a little chunkier than the others (again depending on the plane), but use them to fill in gaps that the other lines don't cover.

Is there a noticable difference between 1/300 and 1/285 ?

"GHQ and CinC are nice but very expensive."

CinC are not expensive in the USA. They are only $4 USD (vs $10 USD for GHQ). My only problem with them is that they are so detailed that they have many small parts and are less 'game' proof.

Navwar is the cheapest (apart from there huge overseas postage rate) but some of the molds look like they've been in continuous use from the 70's.

My rankings from another thread:

My personal order of preference…. The top 3 are 1/285 scale, while Museum is nominally 1/300 but fits better with them. The remainder are 1/300. Whether you mix the two scales is personal preference; I happily mix them, but don't use the same type from more than one firm.

1. GHQ (Very expensive though.)
2. CinC (But very fiddly multi-part.)
3. Raiden
4. Museum Miniatures
5. Scotia / MSD (Most MSD models are licensed Scotia, although they're steadily adding more unique models, especially 1946 stuff.)
6. Stronghold
7. Navwar
8. Skytrex
9. Skyraider

There are specific exceptions all over the place though; eg. Navwar tend to do a particularly nice job with biplanes for some reason.

It's all very well recommending Museum Miniatures(in my opinion the best), CinC and GHQ but their ranges are tiny.

Stronghold, Skyraider and Skytrex are all dead ranges (ie no new stuff will ever be made).

So for a comprehensive range of aircraft you are really limited to a choice of Navwar, Scotia or Raiden.

At the moment I'm buying a mix. Choosing the maker in the following order, where there's a choice.
1. Raiden
2. Museum Miniatures
3. Navwar/Scotia

You can spot the difference if you compare like for like but stick with one size per make/model of aircraft where possible.

Noble Miniatures Air300 range is a brand new range of minis based off of their Air200 range.

They don't have a huge line at this time, but it is expanding.

We carry both the Noble Miniatures planes as well as the Navwar 1/300 planes.

The Air300 planes are also being packaged as painted planes in the Check Your 6! starter boxes that we carry.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions on these ranges

My preference for the mid priced planes is Scotia.
The Raiden miniatures inscribing is too fine to see after painting, making windows hard to paint. Also they have some distortion in their outlines , especially the larger planes.
I agree with the opinions on Navwar planes.
The problem with Museum Miniatures is the limited range, but they do have a few planes nobody else has.
Only the early CinC planes have alot of parts, the later ones are one piece. They are the best for detail.
Scotia planes biggest problem is casting, they are not cast very well at times.

stronghold may not be as dead as they're reported… the range was originally sculpted by the guy behind Raiden and last I heard there may be more on the way from him in 1/300 as opposed to 1/285…

That's good news Phil. One of my first orders from Stronghold had some of Mark's earlier work with B+M Models
packaging.Even then it was superb.I like both 1/300 ranges
they offer.
