Fascinating: the "LaceWars · 18th Century Wargaming" Yahoo Group groups.yahoo.com/group/LaceWars has been transfered to the Age-Restricted Area of Yahoo! Groups: "This area contains material of a mature and adult nature the may not be suitable for younger users. You must be over the age of 18 to access this area of Yahoo! Groups." Given that afaik no other Yahoo Group devoted to wargaming, 18th C. or otherwise, is so 'protected' by an adult filter, I suppose that it came from the dirty word 'LACE'? Human stupidity is like the universe: already infinite and yet in constant expansion. Btw, tells a lot about mainstream 'families values' and priorities regarding 'protection of the innocent': on our dear TMP a mini of a bare-breasted Amazon (a 28mm high bit of unpainted metal) is censored, while a vignette of a man 'dispatching' his defenseless, imploring, wounded opponent would not be

Am I missing something here or does the word "lace" have an alternative meaning? |

Ladies fancy underwear often involves lace or lace like stuff. |

How do you prove you are over 18? Do you have to give a Credit Card? |

It would be if it was really, really gory. |

I think they moved one or more of the colonial or paper modelling groups to the 'Over 18' section a couple of years ago – since I was already subscribed & over 18 it didn't bother me & I don't know if it was ever moved back. Yahoo seems to be off in its own little universe with these things – there have been a few times when a new group has been announced, and even with the correct link & name I can never find it. Over 18 just means you can do basic math & give them a DoB more than 18 years in the past – seems they think kids can't do maths these days (see previous paragraph) |

The same thing happened to Army Group North's Yahoo group. There is probably adult spam in the link page, the photo albums page or somewhre in the messages that's caused the site to be reclassified as "adult". |

or perhaps the level of discourse has been raised to an Adult level? Cheers, Robert |

Not really hindering -you just have to 'click' that you are 18+- and hilarious in a sorry kind of way
But then what's next? When you'll try to sell your Funcken 'The Lace Wars' (and even if you did not inadvertently forget the first 'n') you'll have to post on some secret x-rated part of e-bay (regulars there will be extremely surprised, and probably disappointed, though you'll perhaps make a convert :) :)?)? On a similar vein and potentially more annoying: e-mail replies from fellow wargamers automatically labelled 'spam' and filed in the 'junk' (and the addresse of the sender definitively filed 'spammer' in some cybernetic memory?) because the 'subject': "RE: your imagi-nation" or something similar was judged 'suspicious' by some automaton

BTW, beside clearing out the adult spam (and banning the member who posted it), you just have to email the Yahoo! people and ask them to reclassify the (obviously) innocent hobby site back into the "general" category. Please pass this information onto the Lace Wars people as it should be a fully-accessible, general site. |

Actually the Lace Wars group is still as generally available as ever -just one more click. That is *not* generally available: as with most Yahoo groups you have to be a registered member to gain access to the messages, files, photos. Far less friendly than *forums*, such as this one and others: link link link link where any web explorer can fully enjoy the whole content, benefit from the experience accumulated for years by the members. Like a public library as opposed to a private one. On forums, if not registred you are unallowed only to post a comment or start a new topic; and to contact members -thus e.g. I can't compliment 'Al Front' for his 'Old School' fictitious regiment and suggest him to 'create' the corresponding Imagi-Nation! link |

Actually the Lace Wars group is still as generally available as ever -just one more click. This thread isn't a complaint about the Lace Wars Yahoo group requiring you to be a member to access all of its content, Jean. The site has been reclassified as an "adults only" site, as if it were a sex- or pornography-related Yahoo group. For anyone to go there, as I just tried, they have to click through one page warning the reader that they're trying to access an adult site; and then click through a second page getting the reader to vouch that he's 18 or older to access the site. This is an impediment to accessing the page for current members; and a disincentive for potential members to "surf" the site or to join, mistakenly believing that it's not a hobby-history site, but a pornographic site. Please, would a member contact the Group administration, even through the site's comments and not in a private email, and inform the administration that the site has been reclassified as "adults only" and that it is easy to have the misclassification repaired. How about posting a link to this thread in the site's comments, Jean, so the site administrators can see this for themselves? |
