Hello All, An innocent question about modern jet gaming got me hooked and I bought AWC:21 and a bunch of 1/600s – enough to do Greeks vs Turks 1974 and Iran-Iraq 1980's reasonably well. The painting is about done and I started my first game. It assumes the Turks want to put some bombs on a Greek forward airstrip and sent some F-100D's to do the deed. The Greeks scramble 4 F-5A's to intercept and the Turks send 6 F-102A's to intercept THEM before they could bother the mud movers. The Greeks (Satan Flight) are flying 2 sections in loose deuce one ahead of the other. The Turks (Panther Flight) have 2 sections in loose line abreast with another section hanging way back to cover their rear – just inside missile range. Ground Control talked both sides into contact but I used the spotting rules so each side got a few bad surprises, especially from the laggard Turk section. So far the Greeks have launched 3 Sidewinders with no hits. One Turk had 2 coming at him and botched his break attempt, and they STILL missed. The Turks got in a single Falcon launch from a previously undetected jet with no joy there either. One of the Greeks (Satan 4) came out of a sweet high yo-yo behind a Turk (Panther 3) at medium range – too close for a missile lock. He went to guns instead and got in some crippling damage and a critical hit, further damaging the 102's controls so he can't maneuver at all. Not good in a furball! He'll be ejecting right away. That's as far as I've gotten, but many thanks to all who took the time to get a newbie pointed in the right direction. |

Sounds like it's shaping up about right
. Remember any kill scored with a Falcon is worth at least double, for its sheer novelty value

Agreed, Falcons aren't much better than throwing rocks at your opponents

He had the flu BAD. Back to the game, I gave the Turks an extra pair of 102's because the Turks seemed better organized I had a feeling the lack of guns would be a problem, given the low quality of the missiles available to both sides. So far it seems I was right. Getting a lock then a hit isn't easy. |

Falcons!?! Hah, the Pakistani players at Claymore would have killed for Falcons. They had Martas! ;-) Game sounds good, I went a few years later with my Greeks and Turks, mainly due to a lack of F-84F Thunderstreaks, I plumped for 1979. Of course we can now get them from Lance Johnson through Pico Armour. Fatman |

Yep, I got some of Lance's Thunderstreaks. I'll be breaking them very soon. Actually, the AIM-4D Falcon is somewhat better than the AIM-9B Sidewinder that's also sailing around my skies. Speaking of which, the engagement continues! We last saw the Turk Panther 3 in dire straits after a Greek gun run. Experiencing severe control problems the pilot calls mayday and safely ejects. A SAR helo has been ordered off to pick him out of the Aegean. Greek guns then pick off 2 more F-102A's in short order, downing one outright after it stalled and sending the other limping off crippled. Tell the SAR helo not to return to base right away! Just when it looks like a clean sweep for the Greeks Panther 6 put a Falcon into Satan Leader's tailpipe, blowing him clean out of the sky. His chute opens and he also heads into the sea. Right after that his wingman, Satan 2 is crippled by another Falcon and is looking to get out of it. At this point it looks like the Turks have done about all they can. They've lost 2 shot down and another crippled, while the Greeks have a section of 2 still somewhat able to disturb the following loaded F-100D's. |
