Our group will probably do Cold Wars as the Baltimore July timing is ridiculously in the 4th of July travel time. Who thunk of that? A real concern of ours is the possible lack of clubs putting on games in Baltimore causing fewer games to sign up for or see. All the best,Clif |

So, when H'con returns to Lancaster WILL THEY place it in "the most expensive hotel connected to the venue"
.'cause that's what's been done for Baltimore!!! The airport certainly is cheaper, the train ride maybe fun, the parking may even be free, some hotels may even be sponsored by HMGS
.but they are not connected to the venue. Oggie I guess someone missed the part about," being connected to the event". |

Nah Gil Bates. Grimm, which is me, will be attending H-Con in 2010 and 2011 to support my hobby and venue change. To give it it's fair share. To not sit in the cheap seats blaming all and others and yelling how i can do it better all the while sitting on my duff like i see a lot of peoples here doing for months now. My comment was about other's ramblings and hysterical logic as to why they wont be going. Simply too many chiefs and not enough Indians. If all the naysayers think they can do better get up and get off your butt and show me how to do it. I for one would like to see you put your money where your mouth is. <<< This paragraph wasn't directed to you Gil. Just an open statement to the knowitalls out there. :-) Grimm |

Grimm I have seen some misguided logic on both sides but also good points on both. My point in my post was that this thread was a positive spin on other alternatives for gaming next summer not an anti-Baltimore convention thread. I wish you well at the Baltimore convention. You are of the opinion that attending will support the hobby. I however strongly believe that hobby will be hurt by the move and the increased hand that, "cross polination" with politically connected govenment think tanks, and the rumored presence both Games Workshop and Battle Front will have in influencing the con. I also believe that for the older and less agile members of our organization some of them WWII vets we will be making the convention less safe and less accessible than the Lancaster location is. My personal opinion is that we hurt the hobby by supporting the Baltimore move and its the main reason I won't go. Mine will not be among the pile of heads they count when the BOD inevitibly declares it a sucess. My gaming group is already moving on developing local alternatives for the next two summers and that is what this thread was about not to build up or knock down Baltimore. No offense intended but as gamers most of us spend alot of time with our duffs stuck in cheap seats yelling at the damn dice so your one paragraph was at least to some degree directed at my duff. Lets see
$700 USD for plane tickets, another $300 USD for rental car, plus $300 USD for hotel
So I am out 1300 bucks just getting in the door and having a roof over my head for the nights I am there. Drop the rental car and double the hotel rates and – wow, same cost! The move won't keep me away. My wife's perusal of my checking account post Historicon this year will. At least until 2011, probably. In 2012 I'll be in London for vacation. |

Cold Wars,Fall In, and Willaimsburg Muster should be enough for me next year. That's 2hrs to Lancaster and 4 1/2 to Willaimsburg instead of 45 min to Baltimore.Go figure. |

2010 wargaming shows for me will likely be: Williamsburg Muster Cold Wars Fall In Optionals include: Spring Fever Southern Front Not Included: Historicon. The resons for historicon not being included are these – (1) the date (2) the past few years, I have coincided Historicon with a week long Family Vacation in Lancaster – the family has no interest in Baltimore for a week (3) I like to run games at conventions, and I will wait to hear the reports after the first year about GM access, parking, etc before I try it (4) [most important] We are planning on buying a new house next spring/summer Chuck |

tancred Here is the info. Its all pretty informal right now. My understanding is that it will be $10.00 USD per person so that we can compensate the Church. I thought we had a few more tables and do believe that a few table toppers will be comming too to spread add a table or two. There are preliminary plans to have food availble on site as well. Anyway here is the meat of the email that Bob Varas of our gamming group sent out. "Have put us in for the 29th Aug. Game day will be 29th Aug. Start time at 8:00 am till 11:00pm. So far Shako 25mm south Boradino. Flames of war Pacific. Zombie game. What ever else we want to do. There are 6 -8ft x 5ft tables, 5-2 1/2ft x 6ft and 12 card tables avalible that I counted. There are more tables if needed. Lets think of the games we want to run there. The Church of St. John the Evangelist Essington Pa. exit 9A off of I-95 across from Romano's restaurant. Cost will be 10 dollars for the day. If we like the place and space I can reserve more game dates." |

"I however strongly believe that hobby will be hurt by the move and the increased hand that, "cross polination" with politically connected govenment think tanks, and the rumored presence both Games Workshop and Battle Front will have in influencing the con
" How will the Con be hurt by the attendance of GW or Battlefront? It seems to me that you might expose some of the GW sci-fi/fantasy players to historical wargaming.(thats how I found it) As for Battlefront, I don't know why you'd have a problem with them coming.Plus some interesting lectures by think tanks might be kind of fun and a great way to introduce people to the hobby. All and all, it sounds like it might be a fun covention. |

There are many options in the coming year. HUZZAH! is mandatory for us northern New Englanders (and beyond
.). Check out the new web info at huzzahcon.com This will be updated frequently as this thing is taking off! I love Maine, and this will dovetail nicely with a family vacation ("Vacationland"), if not for the fresh seafood and sights in Portland! There are also any number of game days at the various local clubs, as well as a few conventions in MA and VT. I too love to run games and will wait to hear about the game masters' experience in Baltimore before I make any commitment. (Did you know it used to be the murder capitol of the country?) If you can take a chance, and stomach the increased costs, please go to HCon and support our hobby. I went this past year- what a scene! XOXO, OBLIQUECHARGE |
