Hiya,

Apologies for the ahem… premature declaration a couple of days ago. I've been feverishly working to polish up the Battlesuit, and there's been quite a lot of stuff added to it, especially around the torso.

Firstly, here are pics:

Weapons options – I dug out a GW Tau plasma rifle to show compatibility.

Anyway, for those who are interested, here's a list of changes:

1. Reshaped thighs to make them look less balloon-like.
2. Adjusted position of hip joint to a more natural angle.
3. Scribed new panel lines into the calves.
4. Added lots of new torso detail.
5. Added shoulder armour plate.
6. Added more detail to the forearm.

As I mentioned in the thread two days previously, the production model will have the legs and arms fused into a single unit with 2-3 different poses. Hands and feet will be seperate, and target price point is GBP10.00.

Comments and criticisms welcomed.

Okay, I didn't notice the original thread, but what's that thing where his left lower leg and foot should be? Is that part of the finished model, or will the final sculpt be symmetrical, and that's merely a support structure while you work on it? (I'd hope the latter case is true; as it is now, it looks like he got his foot accidentally caught in a tank he stepped on.)

Other than that question, I'm impressed. The suit is functionally believable, not over the top like most. Well done.

@Parzival

It's just the Kadeshi battlecruiser sculpt I'm using to prop up the suit. The calf and foot will be identical for both sides.

I love the look and the new mods. I also like how the Tau bits work with it. Tau stuff being quite anime looking in the first place, they should all fit nicely.

I'm pretty sure that is a stand-in support. I will say from my drawing days that sometime it's easier to come back and do the other leg after you get the rest of the thing drawn.

For me, drawing both legs was so tedious that I sometimes cut my drawings off at the waist.

I am very much looking forward to this model. It is, by far, among the best Shirow-style landmate/battlesuit/combat cyborgs to come about.

Question – Are all the leg/arm options going to be packaged with the model or are customers going to be able to choose them at time of ordering, or will they be available separately from the basic pose?

I generally dislike buying models that leave me with tons of leftover, unusable "option" pieces.

Thanks for all the previews,

-Eli

P.S. Zandris, now that you seem to be back in communication, I had a question for you.

Are you planning to go forward with the Legend of Galactic Heroes inspired ships?

That is one impressive sculpt, sir! One really nicely done battlesuit, and proportioned superbly.

Rather like the look of the cruiser under way as well :)

ming3101 Aug 2009 6:57 p.m. PST

Very nice .
I would make the feet a touch larger. Is there a sizing picture with a 28mm figure ? I originally liked the more angulatr look but this is very nice

I'm almost tempted to ask that the head unit come seperately… as I may want to "Hard Sci-Fi" it and enclose the canopy, AT-43 style.
So, questions- Packs, racks and tarps… any good place to pick these up that will work with these guys when they're released?

Great work as always!
Cheers!

Looks great! Let us know when you're ready to ship!

I'll take ten… Oh money yes well, make that I want ten but the wife may not let me LOL.

@emu

You'll get a random selection of legs and arms unless you specify a particular combination. You will also get the assault and recoilless rifles in the base kit, and you can buy weapons packs later. I don't want to put dozens upon dozens of options into the online shop because it makes bookkeeping a nightmare, and it helps cut down on mistakes. I learnt my lesson with the literal dozen or so fleet packs I have up for the TDC ships.

re:LOGH – They are in the pipe. Because I'm still on holiday, I can't do much from where I am so I'm not asking the casters to make molds yet. Rest assured I have made plans for them. They will probably remain battleship + cruiser for the meantime though.

@Mike

Unfortunately no, as I mentioned in my reply to emu, I realised that having more options just ends up confusing both customers and myself. In any case it wouldn't change the price much, most of the mass in the model is in the torso and legs anyway ;)

@ming

It's an old shot, but the size of the figure has not changed much. It's around 50mm from head to toe:

Good to hear.

I may have to set up a seperate bank account just for your stuff.

I would really appreciate some head options. Perhaps different "plumes" to denote rank, different front visors, maybe some "mouth" extensions, or more severely sloped/longer head. You could even do some accessory packs to add little greeblies to the legs, arms, and shoulders to instantly have more factions.

Very cool dude!

Eli Arndt03 Aug 2009 9:03 a.m. PST

Darby,

Those are all great ideas.

Things like plumes and such are generally pretty easy to convert onto a fig though, as are different sorts of greeblies, so given the choice between Zandris doing new minis or a ton of options for this one, I'd take new models. All the time and effort spent scultping a dozen options for the suit could be used to build a whole other suit.

I think he's made it pretty clear that the miniatures is going to be designed as simply as possible to begin with.

That being said, if the figure does well (that's up to all of us) I'm sure it'll be worth his time expanding the options available.

Fantsatic looking sculpt- like the sound of the different weapon options!
