Here is a link for the uncensored movie created by Kostas Gravas (Z) for the Acropolis Museum. The Official Church demanded that certain parts be censored. I think you can guess which.

I personally like it.

Which parts were taken out?

XRaysVision01 Aug 2009 11:51 a.m. PST

I am very impressed.

The parts with the early Christians destroying the front part to make place for the cross. 1:30 to 1:50

It is foolish to take it out. It happened. Most protestant denominations (not all) are iconclasts. Some orthodox heresies are still. The official church used to be until the Macedonian dynasty.

It seems my church is still afraid of it's own members:)

Nice vid, thanks for sharing. I think this is a timely reminder of the need to return the Elgin Marbles to their rightful owners………. the Turks.

Those chaps in the church who got so excited at the prospect of a mosque despoiling the view coming into land at the airport must have really got their knickers in a knot over this.

Oh don't worry. Will get the marbles back from Old Lady Albion. Only will also take some more stuff during the process:)

Yeah, I can just see a group of blokes turning up outside the British museum with a large wooden horse. Maybe Britain could turn over it's remaining bases on Cyprus to Turkey?

Ah Greece. Voted most popular holiday destination in the Ottoman Empire, four hundred years running. Still it was probably better administered then. I think we can blame Byron for the hordes of Brit package tourists.

;-)

We're just lucky that any part of it survived.

KTravlos02 Aug 2009 11:54 a.m. PST

Hey our ancestors did it for one woman. Why not for the marbles. And as I said in the bargain, we also get the statue of Nelson from Trafalgar square (have been eying it for my Victorian mansion:)), the British crown jewels, and the top of Big Ben :)

On the Cyprus bases. Yeah, whatever. They will probably maladministrate them as bad as they have the occupied territory.

Byron-Yes, but at least he brought some money. Most Brits that come to Greece just bring Britishness ;)

I agree. Barring Morozini and Elgin a lot more would have survived. Then again Morozini did have military necessity on his side. Even though he could had avoided it. When the Greeks besieged the Parthenon during the War of Independence they offered the Turks their own bullets to be used by the Turks against them as along as the Turks did not melt the lead in the columns to make bullets.

Progress isn't always pretty.

Sometimes progress isn't really progress either. In this case I believe that there was no progress, regress and regret – absolutely. Nice video nonetheless! Thanks for sharing the link.

If the Greeks/Ottomans couldn't handle the upkeep, maybe it should be in England. At least the Brits cared.

Really? Right. Guess what we are now "mature" and built a nice, modern museum just for them. For the Brits there nothing but just another part of Imperial Loot. For us they are important. Please do return them.
