Hi all:

I'm vacationing in New york City for a few days, and was planning to visit the Brighton Beach/Coney Island area on Tuesday. Since that is the Russian and Ukrainian neighborhood I wanted to get good WWII airplane books in Russian just wondering if anyone can give me a few pointers on recommended bookstores down there.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of the Russian/Ukrainian books I have seen (in Russia and Ukraine) actually have pictures and reference taken from western books. Worth checking them carefully as you may find all you are doing is buying a different format with cyrillic words.

I'm not sure you're going to find anything like that in Brookyn, but there's a good Russian bookshop on 5th Avenue in the 20's in Manhattan. I'd give them a call. If you do find a Russian bookshop in Brooklyn, it's likely to be pretty small and probably won't have scholarly books.

There is one that have excellent military history section that may have what you want. I do not remember the name of the store, but can try to describe the location.

It's about on Brighton 8 street. The entrance is at the corner. Store called RDC or RBS video store or music store or something like that. 1st floor is all DVDs and Cd's, second floor is all books. Ask the people who work there to point the military section, they are always very helpful.

The other major book stores on the same stretch of Brighton Beach are StPetersburg and Mosvideofilm. They do not have very good military history selection.

The one in Manhattan on 5Th avenue is pretty good, but last time I visited there there was no military section.

Course you could also look on kniga.com, but sorry, no idea about stores. Mosvideo (or similar company) has a website.

Thanks to everyone for you help. Igwarg, I went to the RBS store (acually on Brighton 3rd St.). Really good selection!

Thanks all!
