I would like to pick up some 28mm WW2 Soviet infantry types to use with my Copplestone Neo-Soviets, but I am unsure which line would be best for this purpose.
These are figures from the range in question:

The Copplestone figures are very tall and chunky, and I would like to find a match at least in thickness. I am only very hazily familiar with 28mm WW2 lines out there.

Can anyone out there who is familiar with both the Copplestone Neo Soviets and various WW2 Soviet lines please make a suggestion for me?

As always, your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,

Jason

Look into West Wind's Wierd War Two line and Peter Pigs' Kolony troops. Both companies do some alternate Russians and even do seperate heads.

Thanks. I am familiar with both the ones you mention, and I am not actually interested in sci fi options. I am looking for troops from an actual WW2 line that will match the sculpting style and proportions of the Neo Soviets.

Thanks.

You might want to check out Black Tree Designs then. They have an extensive range of WW2.

Is Pig Iron afiiliated with Peter Pig?

I do not believe so.

Are the the BTD figures bigger than West Wind's? Same size?
From the website, BTD's figures look sufficiently thick to match the Copplestones, but I don't know how they stack up height-wise. I am under the impression that West Wind's are a bit smaller (partially taking a cue from my Vampire Wars range-they are closer to 25mm).

BTD are tallish too. This is based on several comparison pics I've seen and not on first-hand knowledge.

Copplestone's Soviet figures are *well* chunky. One option that might work is First Corp -- they're about the biggest "28" WW2 figures around. I'd have a look, but although I know where the copplestone's are, I've no idea what I did with the 1C sovs. I bought a pack, took one look at them next to BTD stuff and… put them somewhere to do something with at some point later. And I've no idea where now.

You might want to consider AE-WWII. They generally are a bit slimmer than Copplestone minis, but I mix them and really don't find too much of an issue.

The Soviet Psi Trooper, might be more of what you're looking for. He was a prototype before the rest of the line was made and tends to be a bit bigger and chunkier than the rest of the AE-WWII line.

Victory Force's Historical and their N.E.W. War line are great.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I will check out 1st Corps and Victory Force.

Cheers!

I just realized one of the links I posted probably won't work.

This picture shows a mixture of Copplestone Castings Back of Beyond (Bolshevik Heroines) with Tamiya 1/48th scale plastic Soviet Tank Riders, and AE-WWII figures.

Front Row – Left to Right:
Tamiya, Tamiya, AE-WWII
Back Row – Left to Right:
AE-WWII, Copplestone, Copplestone, Copplestone

Overall, the Copplestones are slightly shorter, but not enough to make them look out of place. They are a bit fuller proportioned however. The Tamiya's are a little bit taller, and slimmer than the Copplestones. They are slightly taller than the AE-WWII figures, but not too bad. In fact I've interchanged parts between the two lines.

Thanks, CmdrKiley, that does help!

Cheers,

For anyone else with a similar questoin to mine about size and proportion among WW2 ranges, I just found this really useful link in the archives(it alluded my attempts earlier):

The Westwind SHS WW2 Soviets are the chunkiest from the ranges i have (BAM, BTD, Artizan,TAG) and are nice minis. BTD have slightly over large guns which match well with Westwinds SHS.

Update; I found the First Corp soviets. They're a pretty good match for the Copplestone neos. I think you'd be OK with them.
