How do you handle the situation of dice rolling off the table and onto the floor? A, Too bad so sad, that roll don't count. B, Pick them up and have a re-roll. C, The mumber showing on the floor counts. |
Connard Sage | 25 Jul 2009 5:40 p.m. PST |
B. Always, it's not bloody life or death. It's a wargame, -emphasis on the 'game' – from the way some of you people (not the OP) carry on about dice anyone would think it was a roll of craps with a hundred grand stake. |
Fall Rot | 25 Jul 2009 5:41 p.m. PST |
Same as craps -- "In the wood, no good." Reroll ALL dice if one or more are off the table. If balancing on a chip or something, the side which is most facing up is used.. |

We have a rule that to count, the dice have to land on a flat part of the table without being cocked. Anything else is re rolled. Off the table, through the window or landing on an edge, not a flat side of the die must be re rolled. It's fair and works. You could get a shoe box or tray to roll the dice in to so little chance of messing up. |
Cosmic Reset | 25 Jul 2009 5:53 p.m. PST |
Any die that doesn't end its roll on the table gets re-rolled. Any die that doesn't end resting on a flat gets re-rolled. Any die that ends its roll on a flat and on the table is a written in stone, the result cannot be changed. |

Option B – same with dice rolls that end up on their sides, and thus don't have a single face showing. |

B. I agree with Connard Sage. Not a bad poll question. |

B. Re-roll cocked or off table dice. A. is just mean. C. do I really want to move the sofa just right now. |

We always go with B in our group. Scoop 'em up and re-roll, whatever the die says. |

B. Re-roll all dice that are off the table or out of the box (if using box) Cocked dice always get a re-roll. I have seen some possibly great die rolls drop very good after the banging the table with a fist. The dice roller then re-rolls anyway. This was always good for a laugh. Terry |

B – A is lame and C is silly since it involves old people on their hands and knees squinting at the floor. |

My house rule is B. If you do it two times in a row the result is automatically the worst result possible. If a grown man can't make two tiny dice land on a 6x12' table in two tries then he needs to practice die rolling on his own time, not ours. |
Syrinx0 | 25 Jul 2009 7:30 p.m. PST |
B has always worked fine where I have played. If you have to repeatedly do it, the abuse and ridicule you get is usually entertaining and sufficient enough punishment. |

B for us. I've never heard of options A and C. A would be a rule for twits. Here's another one that drives me ing crazy – one of my friends does it and we yell at him all the time for it – say you have to roll 2-4 d6 or even a pair of percentile dice. He will roll one at a time instead of all together. It drives us cracked. -- Tim |

B. though possibly make a new category of: re-roll all the dice, not just the off table one(s). I use a variant of A at Cons with kids (and the occasional adult
) who prefers to roll
hmmm, shall we say: with energy?
after a couple times with dice flying across the hall, I stipulate that any die on the floor counts as a zero --and since I use the "high rolls are good" convention in most of my games, it usually calms them down, as trying to roll, say, greater than seven or eight on one d6 is tough even for the best gamer

Has anyone ever used one of those dice-roll towers? Anyway, my answer is 'B' Some players roll dice clear across the table, smacking into figures, vehicles and through forests. (One of my players treats the dice like a crap-shoot) I have a dice box to roll dice into, but it is too large for the table in some miniatures games, due to the congested scenery and/or amount of miniatures. |

I pretty much reroll whenever I feel like it
on the floor, on the table perfectly flat. It doesn't help, if I roll a "1" the first time, it's pretty much guaranteed no matter how many times I reroll, I will continue to get a "1". |

We use dice towers all the time. Any roll that goes out of the box gets re-rolled. See the dice towers lined up at left. picture |

Off the table, reroll. Any obviously cocked dice, reroll. If a die of the same type and size can balance on the die in question, it's not cocked. |
Neotacha | 26 Jul 2009 5:57 a.m. PST |
B, but only the die (or dice) that hit the floor. Same with cocked dice. Reroll only the offending die, not the others. |
vojvoda | 26 Jul 2009 7:03 a.m. PST |
B here also except at convention games where kids or over excited gamers are rolling like they are at the craps table in Vagas. Then they get two warnings and re-rolls. After that any dice off the table (or outside of the dice cup or dish) is a lost dice. VR James Mattes |
Son of Liberty | 26 Jul 2009 8:21 a.m. PST |
Option B without a doubt, but I also insist on using dice cups and some sort of tray for catching the dice. Oh, and slamming down the dice cup on the table isn't allowed either. (This is a gentlemen's wargame, not some drunken dice game at the local bar/pub.) |

Well for figure wargames (always so serious) B However
for Boardgames we tend to take the roll even if it lands on the floor, (assuming it's not cocked). I actually think it's quite fun when an important roll rests with the one die that went astray. |

Dice not on the table need to be re-rolled. I personally don't care about the dice on the table -- leave em or re-roll all of them -- as long as everyone does it the same way. mjc |
religon | 28 Jul 2009 4:19 p.m. PST |
I think most people I game with re-roll only cocked dice or those off the table. Those on the table are left as initially rolled. |
