Well, I took the plunge and tried creating a blog. It didn't exactly work the way I wanted it to, but I did get my daughter to snap some pictures of some of my Byzantine Army in our sand box. If you are interested they can be seen here: link

Now I just have to figure out how to get the pictures where I want them in the article…

Perris,

They are great looking figures. The paint job is fantastic.

I've found with my blog ( link ) that the best way is to load the pictures in reverse order, then add a bunch of empty lines (carriage returns) at the end. I then move the pictures down so that there is room between each picture as well as room at the top. Then you can start typing your text.

Good luck,

Jim

Those look really nice. What game are they organized for?

nycjadie23 Jul 2009 3:17 p.m. PST

Fantastic! Perhaps they can fight my Normans.

Love the banners.

Great painting and sculpting – look forward to future editions on the blog. You may be interested in the following sites:

Glad to see that someone else still uses those venerable Byzantine horses by Hinchliffe.

Agree with the above comments on the banners (some of which I assume you did paint).

Cheers

Thanks for the "blog tips" Jim! I will try them. Garry, I like the Hinchliffe horses. They have an "ancient" feel to them somehow. Thanks for sharing those links with me – they are great.

The banners are from several different sources – LBM Studios, online Icon sites, and the larger ones were sent to me by Javier from Spain.

nychadie – I have admired your Normans many times before and copied all the pictures onto my computer for inspiration!

Oh, Punkrabbit, they are sort of based for Warhammer Ancient Battles rules.

Very nice! I particularly like the way the unit standards are tied to the shield designs. Got to remember that when/if I get back to Byzantines.

I will try to get some more pictures of my other units up soon on the blog. Thanks to Jim I've got some new techniques to try!

Lovely stuff. I have a very old large army of Hinchliffe Byzantines for the Thematic to Manzikert periods. It all needs a lot of work, but other commitments are stopping me from getting started. Incidentally, does anyone know if any of the Little Big Men transfers will work on Hinchliffe figures? I'm thinking of those designed for Crusader Miniatures. I have a feeling that these are kind of teardrop-shaped going by what I've seen on the website, so even some creative retouching might not be enough to make them work on Hinchliffe, which have kite shields. Thought I'd ask the collective…

I would say that you could find some that would fit pretty well. I would suggest for the Hinchliffe tagmatic cavalry try the transfers designed for the Gripping Beast Infantry tear drop shields. They might be a pretty close match.

Caliban27 Jul 2009 12:47 p.m. PST

Thanks, Perris, I hadn't thought of using infantry patterns for the cavalry. I think the real problem is going to be finding designs for the Varangians – the Hinchliffe figures have huge shields.

Beautiful paint job on your figures and nice photos, Perris! Look forward to seeing the rest of your troops when you immortalize them as well.

oldbob28 Jul 2009 1:33 p.m. PST

Yes defiantly a beautiful army, waiting to see more!

Paul,

I know that I saw some old Hinchliffe figures for sale on Ebay a while back and they definitely had LBMS shield transfers. I'll check through some of my old pics and see if I can post them to the blog for you.

Regards!

Perris
