I want to mount my GZG 15mm hover tanks on flight stands. But I want to be able to represent both high flight and ground hugging/landed positions. So I want to put magnets on the tanks and flight stands I've got so I can move the tanks from one to the other.

I've never used rare earth magnets before, so I've got no idea what size to get. Any ideas? I know there are variety packs I could order, but I don't want to make one order, then fiddle and find the right size, then make another order.

Hi

It may depend on the stands your using and diameter available to put magnet to (at top of stand), you may also need to consider the weight of the tank compared to the stand diameter (at top)

So you may be limited to the magnet size to match the top of your stands. and if this will be large enough

Just a thought – i could be totaly wrong though, as I have only used the magnets on 6mm aircraft

I'd use the ones being sold for use with "Check your Six!" I also believe that they may be available through Litko.

I too wanted to do this, but GZG products are all metal, and heavy. I have resolved myself to using the "High" and "Low" mode chits and get more sleep at night!

The tanks have plenty of room for even a nickel or quarter sized magnet on the bottom. And for the post on the flight stand I'm using nails, so I just need to leave the heads on to have surface area to glue.

I'm just wondering exactly what size to get.

Great minds think alike.

I was thinking about this just a couple of days ago, and have some of the GZG tanks for testing.

Which ones are you planning on using, since that will affect the results, based upon their weight?

How high do you want them to fly?

Finally, will you want them to be able to angle up/down, and to bank to the side?

We have a couple of different Flight Stand options to assist with that, and various sized bases made of clear acrylic that should work, using our Dogfight Flight Stands ©.

The beauty of using this system for mounting is that they can easily be removed for low level flight, and for just resting on the ground as well.

Our Fixed-Head Antennae extend from 4.5" – 19" in height (better for lower level flight, which is approximately 36 feet high at the minimum extension level, at 1:1 scale), and our Swivel-Head Antennae extend from 7" – 22" in height (required, if you want your grav vehicles to be able to angle in to attack, to climb and dive, and to bank to the side a bit when maneuvering).

Once I receive your reply, I will do a little testing.

They're the Heavy Grav Sleds and Assault Sleds, but I really just need to know how big a magnet I need. I've got everything else. I just want to represent high or low/ground altitude.

1/4" diameter by 1/8" thick disc magnets should work just fine. Just be sure to center the weight of the vehicle over the stand.

Perfect. Thanks.
