I stopped by the OG booth at Historicon and asked the very kind lady whether they had plans to do the 2nd edition treatment on their ECW line.

I was told it's very unlikely as that is one of the better first edition lines (and I surmised that it's not that popular anyway).

While I don't disagree completely, it would be nice to see their ECW range get the same treatment. I like the proportions of the 2nd edition figures better. They remind me of Perry.

Their original ECW line is quite good. There are other lines that need a ton of help, i.e. Baleric Slingers….

Their original ECW figures really don't need to be redone. I think they're excellent.

We are planning on remolding original line. Would most gamers rather have seperate heads or the heads cast on ?? We are not saying we will never re-sculpt any of them. Just not in the near future? Regards, Russ

Gallowglass21 Jul 2009 6:17 p.m. PST

My preference would be for separate heads.

Nice to hear from Russ!

I think it would be good for sales to announce on TMP when you are remoulding a line. I like buying from fresh molds.

I'm going to be a pain and say cast on in stead of separate.

Phillius22 Jul 2009 2:20 a.m. PST

Cast with head on.

rct7500122 Jul 2009 3:48 a.m. PST

head on please

Ken Portner22 Jul 2009 5:22 a.m. PST

I think it depends on how you continue to package them.

If they continue to be packaged in bags of 30, then cast on heads are fine. You're getting the variety anyway.

If the were to be offered as boxes of 20 or 10 (or whatever you're doing for the 2nd edition) then separate heads would be nice.

If you ever get to any resculpts these would be my requests:

1. The trousers on the pikemen are too baggy. I think more contemporary research shows that they weren't dressed as dashing swashbucklers, but as common folk. Cloth wasn't something to waste on baggy, flowing pants.

2. How about some infantry with knit caps (Monmouth caps). AFAIK the infantry have soft hats, monteros or helmets.

3. While nicely done, the current figures are a big squat. The proportions on the 2nd edition figures look more realistic.

Head on please. And the originals in this line are great, I don't see any need to redo them.

I am ambivalent about the heads. I have a pretty good collection of this line and I really like it. They painted up very well and look great on the table. After the horses were fixed, I think it is among OG's best.

I would like the heads cast on, but with seperate left legs for musketeers in loading poses (only!). If you fail to do this I will howl mercilessly about how poor and inaccurate they are.

Ken Portner23 Jul 2009 7:13 a.m. PST

One other thing.

I just got my first bag of OG ECW musketeers and notice that a substantial proportion of them have musket rests.

My understanding is that the rests were abandoned pretty early on in the conflict as the newer muskets were light enough to make them unnecessary.

While I understand this range is supposed to cover both ECW and 30YW, where they would be appropriate, how about a repackaging so that you can buy musketeers with or without rests?

That's what I had in mind when I requested the separate heads. Smaller pack – separate heads for more variety, please. 30-odd in a bag – cast-on heads would be fine.

Cast on please – could have 30 fig. Miitia Musket and Militia Pike grab bags with different head gear clothing etc?

pilum4023 Jul 2009 6:40 p.m. PST

Cast on heads please. I paint armies instead of just units. It's a big time saver when getting stuff ready to paint. I don't have a lot patience gluing heads on figs. Gluing swords, pistols on 100+ cavalry was a stretch. I understand variety but I want to get things done when doing a painting project.

Here's what they look like when done:

Make the rider's legs fit the horses. The quarter inch gap is just unacceptable.

pilum4027 Nov 2009 7:53 a.m. PST

Just bend them to fit. I use needle nose pliers to get that job done. :)
