All you Zed fans out there, keep an eye out for the new "The Colony" TV series on Discovery. Think of it as "Survivor: Apocalypse" in which the posit a collapse of society and they have 10 people create their own sanctuary -- they even have biker marauders, supposedly. Dunno about firearms, that may not be "PC":

"What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? How would you find food? Water? Shelter?

The Colony is a controlled experiment to see exactly what it would take to survive and rebuild under these circumstances. For 10 weeks, a group of 10 volunteers, whose backgrounds and expertise represent a cross-section of modern society, are isolated in an urban environment outside Los Angeles and tasked with creating a livable society.

With no electricity from the grid, no running water and no communication with the outside world, all the volunteers have to work with are their skills and whatever tools and supplies they can scavenge from their surroundings.

Experts from the fields of homeland security, engineering and psychology have helped design the world of The Colony to reflect elements from both real-life disasters and models of what the future could look like after a global viral outbreak.

Over the course of the 10-week experiment, the Colonists must work together to build the necessities of survival, such as a water-filtration system, a battery bank that powered their electricity, a solar cooker, a shower system and a greenhouse – and even some niceties (a coffee maker!).

Tune in Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10 p.m. ET/PT to see who thrives and who fails to survive"

It's the fast zombies that always worry me.

That group is not a typical cross section of modern society. Look at the number of engineers, scientest and medical professionals. It is something NASA would send to the Mars colony.

From the videos I have seen so far on the link, just watch for the entertainment value now.

Their experiment has already failed there is no real disaster and that it will be over in ten weeks and everybody knows it and it is not your normal cross section of society. there is no true lawlessness so everyone is still on their best behavior.

If this was for real then their dead already this is a biological disaster their modeling this after right? So sure let a whole group of people in to your compound? They start asking you where's your water and your food and where you got it all at or from? How did they get pass all the lawlessness and gangs without weapons "Their in Los Angeles". They didn't have any water or food themselves? Their in Los Angeles and "the colony" could not find a gun shop and some ammunition. Hello again there in Los Angeles for gods sakes!

I'm not bashing Los Angeles by no means it's the location they picked, it could be any other major city for that matter and you will have the same results or very much the same results.

I don't know what model or models they are using or saying they are using for disasters, but I will guarantee that any model I have will have groups out there with real weapons and not pipes and sticks and they will just shoot them dead and just take what they want to include the women for their temporary entertainment if you understand my meaning.

Why cause their in a "Law" environment, and that changes everything, their experiment fails right there,

in a lawless environment there is no law enforcement to arrest or to prosecute, or to prove you even did it, you have something I want "bang" now I have it. This is or was to be modeled right after a real disaster biological one if I understand it right, so there should be plenty of weapons around and lots of other supplies and things too. Groups of people in panic or mob mentality the list goes on and on.

Sorry I spent to much time in the Infantry "This is my weapon with it I can get anything I want."

they did something similar to this years ago in the UK – stuck a group of people (more than ten though) onto one of those remote islands of Scotland. Can't recall much more than that though, but certainly not a new idea by any stretch of the imagination. then again, since big brother seems to have finally died out they need something similar for the brain dead masses to watch.

You just might as well watch "Junkyard Wars"

Comment from my wife " This reinforces the already paranoid feeling that people have toward one another every little dweeb watching this program is going to arm himself need I say more", that's her comment on the show, further thought, "Is the government trying to tell us something via programs like this?" ( I being one of above said paranoids)

:) End of wife's comments.
