Now I'm toying with the ide of doing Gettysburg with these rules. Now the base is 60x60mm, Which means you got a lots of room As each base represent a whole brigade I was thking of actualy doing two lines of infantry on each base to represent one line on the fornt with another a little behind to represent reserves. But do you think it would look good? |

What scale? 10MM would like nice and still be large enough the see. 6MM is a bit small for my tastes, but you could actually get fairly creative. |

I'm totaly into 6mm so thats what I'm going to do. I'll be usesing irregular so I can get 36fig pr. line So each base would have 72 figs. The bases are so big I realy feel just 24 or 36 figs on a huge 60x60 base would be to little. ofcoruse this means about 6000 figs in total. But hey, thats whats fun with 6mm |

I would give consideration to a line of infantry with a mounted officer or two behind the line. DO NOT use a command stand in the middle, but use a mounted figure with the proper brigade flag behind the line attached to the general. Then, I'd use a line of skirmishers in advance of the main battle line. Respects, |

When it comes down to it, the number of figures on a COA bases, and the formation that you put them in is entirely down to what you think looks 'right'. All of my bases for Marechal d'Empire (the Napoleonic equivalent of COA) hold the equivalent of two formed 'battalions' and a few skirmishers, giving quite 'dense' looking bases. This looks right to me for the period. With COA I want a more linear appearance to the game, and so to give the impression of a formed body preceded by a skirmish line. So I use a double rank of formed infantry (24 figures) and between 6 and 12 individual skirmish figures placed in front of them using the large area of open ground in front of the supports. You can then add lots of scenic bits and pieces to really turn the base into a diorama in its own right. By the time that these are then ranked with other similar bases, then you get a superb end result.
Have a look at this this link for a better idea of what I mean. This process also has the added advantage of being able to use the number of skirmishers to indicate the skirmish rating of the unit. Cheers Peter

Hey, Peter, I've been meaning to ask, where do you get those trees and logs. I'm always looking for stuff like that for my bases |

The trees were a range I used to sell, but unfortunately the company who made them went out of business. I am working hard trying to find an alternative. The logs and other bits and pieces all came from my garden
