I'm wondering if anyone knows a company that makes/sells @28-30mm miniatures or toy figures of Landmate powersuits from the anime/manga series Appleseed, or similar types of powersuits? I have some ideas, but large scale conversion of Tau XV-8s is a bit out of my price/time range
If anyone has made them yourself, how did you do it? |

Infinity models are very, very close in style. The downside is they are a bit pricey. However, you could buy the larger hardsuits and then attach the arms from a different armored figure. link link |

Anyone have pictures of the GZG landmate? |
| Farstar | 17 Jul 2009 11:29 a.m. PST |
Note that GZG's examples are probably closer to 25mm instead of the heroic scales of 28mm+. |

The info at the link I supplied says the GZG Landmates stand nearly 50mm tall. As for pics, they are closely modelled on the ones in Appleseed so you can't go far wrong. Nice chunky models too! |

? I bought a pile of the GZG landmates sight-unseen based on that description, and they look *nothing* like the Appleseed Guges-class landmates. I have all 4 Appleseed manga and all 3 movies, the GZG landmates look nothing like what came out of those stories. 'Nearly 50mm' is 48mm to the top of the head, and when your '28mm' figure is 35mm to top of head, they're *way* too small to have a person inside. They're usable as combat borgs, not as Landmates. The closest match in 28mm is the Infinity Yu Jing Guijia TAG ( picture ), followed by the Infinity Nomad Szalamandra ( picture ). Note that neither of the Infinity suits have exposed master arms, which is one of the defining characteristics of a Landmate. I stuck a couple spare arms from a GW Space Marine onto a Guijia, with a back-mounted gatling rig built from 2 GW Tau Burst cannons off some Crisis suits. The significantly cheaper option is Victory Force's CLAWS suit ( link ). The chestplate needs some attention from a file to get a more accurate shape, the thighs are way too thin, and the gun needs to be replaced, but if you ignore the thigh issue, you can have a whole pile of Landmates for ~$20 apiece, including the cost of the DP9 HG weapons pack! lemme see if I can borrow a camera, I'll try to get some pics of the stuff I've done (and those GZG 'landmates'). |

I'd like to see the GZG landmates too |

I think it should be established that there are all sorts of shapes and forms of Landmates. Saying there is one way they look is like saying all cars look the same. If you are wanting something close to the Guges then the closest you are going to find are the Infinity or the CLAWS. Your original post did ask for "similar" and those are as similar as you are going to get. I might also add that the Tau Crisis suits look even less like Shirow style landmates. -Eli |

GZG's other stuff is all 25mm – the Landmates match up better to those, I'd imagine. Having said that, I've never seen a pic of the elusive things, nor do I remember seeing them at a show. If anyone has a pic, I'd be grateful. The closest match in 28mm is the Infinity Yu Jing Guijia TAG ( picture ), followed by the Infinity Nomad Szalamandra ( picture ). The first thing that comes up in a GIS for "appleseed landmate" is this: picture Other than the gun and wings, the Infinity Gūijiă is a close match, IMO. As good as you'll get for 28mm without converting, anyway. Lion in the Stars, the Nomad Lizard ( picture ) has the exposed arms, although buying a T.A.G. just for the arms is somewhat profligate. |

I bought one of the GZG Landmates
I love GZG, but this model was pretty crappy, sorry. I have to agree with Andrew Paul- the Guijia is as close as you're going to get to a decent looking Landmate-esque model, without actually violating IP rights. Cheers! |

Eric – you are correct. I have a few of the GZG figures in question. Landmates they ain't. Not even close. GZG should really put up a few photos on their webshop. The Victory Force Miniatures CLAWS is a very nice model, and I do mean "model" as it comes in 20 pieces. Lots of drilling and pinning to get that table ready. The Infinity Gūijiă is very cool, but around USD$40.00 each. |

Hey guys, I sculpted the CLAWS about three years ago and you all are right on all points. Legs
way too thin, chest
well lets just say Double "D". It needs some attention (filing), and lastly it is a pain to put together. The gun is meh too
The inspiration was the guges, and some day I will sculpt one to look pretty much like the real thing. Infinity pretty much put my candle out on sculpting anime style figures. Those guys are just plain sick
Good I mean. I have every figure they have produced. I also think the Guija TAG is pretty dang close to the guges in overall style. Heck I mounted the arms from one of my CLAWS onto the Guija and it looks pretty bad arse
Anyway I just have started two other projects and want to return and re-invent the anime line at some point. Just have to find the time. Thanks for the comments though and if your interested in what I'm doing heres my blog

I seem to recall that GZG used to carry another line of anime figures that included a much more proper landmate. -Eli |

Does anybody have pics of the GZG mini's? |

@retzlaffmd: That flipsminiatures link that JC put up shows what I got from GZG when I ordered the 'Landmates'. link looks nothing like an Appleseed landmate. @Mike: Big thighs, space for a human inside the torso, and a separate head? check, check, and check. That really is the *closest* to a Landmate, although not a GUGES-D. The real closest match to a GUGES-D would probably be an Infinity Lizard upper body on the Szalamandra legs. @Andrew: That's why I suggested using plastic GW space marine arms, much cheaper. JC, I have something like 9 of those CLAWS suits. The filing took me about 5 minutes per suit using the big 10" mill file, and it's a huge improvement. I'm most frustrated by the guns, they're just not very crisp. I can live with the thin legs. (Frankly, as many pieces as that model comes in, it shouldn't be too hard to sculpt a fresh pair of thighs for it, right? *hint, hint*) As far as 15mm Landmates go, have you seen the Dawnguard Invictors by Privateer Press? picture They're the troops in the very foreground of the left side of the picture. Give them a different rifle and do a little cleanup to remove the stuff that's obviously 28mm, and it's all golden. I'm buying a unit just for that purpose when they come out. I've gotta borrow a friend's camera this week to get that picture of my almost-GUGES for you guys. |

@retzlaffmd: I know that the Infinity suits are pricey, but the JC suits aren't too bad. Like I said, if you can live with the too-thin thighs, they're nicely low-cost for how big a 28mm Landmate is. Also, the Manga gives the impression that each ESWAT officer is responsible for their own suit, so they're all a little bit different. Deunan's got her GUGES-H, Briareos has his custom suit (carrying a 105 or 120mm tank gun!), etc. Frankly, *every* ESWAT operator has a visibly different suit layout! Close to the end of book 4, there's even some discussion of the Israeli model that doesn't have exposed master arms at all. |
| palaeoemrus | 20 Jul 2009 4:03 p.m. PST |
Briareos is a cyborg. That ain't no suit. That's HIM. |
| Eli Arndt | 20 Jul 2009 4:51 p.m. PST |
From what I understand, the ESWAT officers all choose to customize their LM because they are almost all recruited from mercenaries and other veterans who are not willing to rely on standard packages and mechanics to save their lives. The slave arms are suppsed to be a choice not a requirement of LM tech. Not all nations use them in Appleseed. Paleo, Later on in the comics, Bri get a LM that he wears over his cyborg body. He is serious badass. -Eli |
