For those interested in racing and autoduel rules, the Green Flag edition of Speed Rally is now available. This is the final version of the basic game, which Glory Games offered as a micro-release last summer, and incorporates all the tweaks and clarifications we made over the past year. We've also included a short preview of some of the devices and weapons you'll see in the SR expansion "Bigger, Badder, Faster," due out at the end of 2009/early 2010, all of which should be compatible with the new Battle Machines line of cars from Jada (Speaking of, has anyone actually seen these in *stores* yet? They were supposed to be out last month, but I have yet to stumble across one anywhere outside of eBay.) Speed Rally is available now as a PDF at speedrally.net. (And if you happen to be in Lancaster, PA, this weekend, we will be running two Speed Rally events on Saturday afternoon, July 18, at Historicon) |

I picked up about 5 of the Battle Machines line of cars at Hobbypeople a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen them in the major chain stores (Target, Walmart, etc.) yet. |

Just ordered a full set of 12 from ebay, but they haven't arrived yet. |

I've been looking for these, but haven't found any yet
I REALLY don't wanna pay ebay prices for these things

Well, I've found them priced individually for way too much (for my meager budget). But the full set of 12 on ebay came to about $50 USD with the shipping. Worked out to $4.16 USD per car, which I find acceptable. This is a new product line, so I wasn't expecting to find heavy discounts. But when I found them as individual cars, for over $7 USD each, $4.16 USD looked pretty good. Mine arrived today by the way. They look very nice. |

I'm not arguing that they look good. I'm probably going to wind up buying at least one of each, and several copies of some so I can go at them with a dremel tool and fingernail polish remover

Wow -- Real life is getting more like Car Wars and Speed Rally every day! From the Dec 12 NY Times, a story on Mexican Drug Cartels making cars built to autoduel! link "The devious nature of the traffickers can be seen in some of the weaponry they install, which General Solórzano suspects is done in their own chop shops. Traffickers put a turret in one truck, allowing them to raise a machine gun through the roof while remaining safely inside a bulletproof chamber below. "Traffickers have also added fog machines to the back of their vehicles, allowing them to lose the authorities in a cloud of smoke. Another way they stymie the pursuing federal police is by pulling a lever on the dash and unleashing a cascade of twisted and sharpened nails." |

In the words of Car Wars creator Steve Jackson, "Drive Offensively." And an MG turret will help that philosophy right along. Time to break out the LAWs, Dragons, and TOWs, or at least a bazooka or two. |

Since nobody's posted a link yet to Jada; 'link': :) link Prob is, the cars are either too 'big' (1/32) or too 'small' (1/64). Of course I am speaking in/to 'relatives', I run supers (predominately); so from 'true' 25mm to 'Heroic' 25/28/35mm. Now the Silverados look 'close', and so do the Semis (although I'd have to alter the rear MG to cover the 'seat'
it's too tiny otherwise
). The other cars
well, maybe the police car (altough it'll look like an oversized 'funny car' next to the 1/43s)
Ya know, with these, and my 1/43s
maybe I can get my Gurps: Superchargers (think Supers, but in the Car Wars universe) game going next year
maybe.:) Oh well, back to 'Death Race'

To give you a solid idea of how all the sizes compare, here's a side-by-side photo of a Battle Machine next to cars from 5 other scales: picture The clear acrylic under the 1/55 and 1/64 cars are the 3" long bases I use in Speed Rally |
