The name John Jenkins sounded familiar to me and now I recognize his figures as I've seen them on EBay. They're very nice, and his Rogers Rangers will be a great help with painting Conquest's Rangers, but his French are all dressed for winter while most of Conquest's "Compangies Franches de la Marine" are in summer campaign dress. Many of Conquest's appear to be wearing a mixture of buckskin moccasins and leggings and linen shirts, or something similar that I can't positively identify or guess the color of.

Gorb and Ashokmarine

That's a great illustration of the Marine in the stocking cap, knapsack, and blue coat. If I could find another like that in a linen shirt I'd be a happy camper. (-:

Thanks.

Get a copy of the Robert Griffing book on the Eastern Woodlands Indians. It has everything that you need.

They went pretty "Native" so anything goes really

"They went pretty "Native" so anything goes really"

Everything that I've read supports that theory, but the Conquest uniforms look pretty…well…uniform. (-:

The Osprey Campaign on Braddock's Biffo has some good inspiration for the French marine troops.

Check out Ospreys Monogahela 1754-55 Campaign 140 and Montcalm's Army Men-at-Arms 23. When in the field the marines would not wear the Justacorps. ( That is the grey white infantry coat with blue cuffs) They would have on their blue breeches and the long sleeve blue waistcoat. Or even go native wearing a breechclout and leggings with a long shirt. Head gear would be the tricorne with gold tape on the edges or the fatigue cap, which was blue with and white, or all blue or the Tuque, stocking cap, like the French Milita. I have some of the Conquest figures and they are dressed for winter. Most wear the Canadian blanket coat with a hood. This could be almost any color.

The rangers uniform varied. I suggest getting a hold of Burt Loescher's books on the rangers put out by Heritage Books (www.HeritageBooks.com) and a copy of the annotated and illustrated Journas of Major Robert Rogers published by Purple Mountain Press (www.catskill.net/purple) It has a good chapter on ranger dress.

That was Journals of Major Robert Rogers. My fingers went walking.

The French troops, especially in the west wore irregular clothes as they only got uniforms every couple of years so they saved their uniforms for formal occasions.
