So now that I've sorted out how many bases I need for each battalion, I thought I should do some due diligence on basing size for people playing Shako II in 10mm. What size bases are you using for infantry, cavalry, and arty? What does your typical 10mm basing look like? As much as I enjoy painting these little guys, I'd like to be able to actually play with someone else (so I must confront the always fun basing issues).

Anyone playing these rules in 10mm?

Thanks.

A friend of mine does. I think he uses normal 10mm basing. I'll check and get back.

Its very unlikely that you will find someone who plays a) shako b) uses 10mm figures and also c) used a particular suggested basing scheme. Shako is far more common in 15mm. You will probably end up supplying both sides for a game.

One of the suggested basing schemes for shako is simultaneously popular with other rule systems such as Napoleon's Battles;

infantry 3/4" wide by 1" deep with 4 figs in 2 ranks
Cavalry are 1" wide by 2" deep with 4 figs in 2 ranks
artillery are 1.5" wide by 1" deep

My Shako2 army is in 6mm.. 48 figs to a battalion.

Looks fantastic.

I'd be inclined to create a mass effect and use doublr the number of figures on a 15mm base and play the game to 15mm move distances, as Shako is based on notional units and stand rather than figure removal.

Otherwise I suspect you'd need to be looking at 2/3 of normal 15mm basing.

This is what I did for FPW more or less doubling the number of figures on a 15mm Principles of War base.

I make no excuse for posting a link to this example again. link (flickr stats tell me its had over 1000 views!)

And it looks as if you do what I do. Double the number of 10mm figures on a 15mm base.
