I've been collecting for Black Hawk Down style scenarious and moderns generally. 20mil is the scale I decided on. Surprise, surprise
I have a 1/72 black hawk model. Now I kind of knew before I ordered it that 1/72 aircraft are pretty big. Opening the box confirmed my suspicions. Nose to tail it's about 9 inches. That's a big chopper! OK to have one on table with people fast lining. OK to have a crashed one on table. But circling one round would be a bit of a bind. My solution to this in ww2 is to use much smaller scale aircraft. So I nipped down to toys r us to see what they had. Sure enough, they had a suitable range. These are "Fast Lane Super Aircraft". I got a couple of black hawks and a couple of apache. They're 2.49 quid each and half the size of the 1/72 so they're maybe something in the order of 1/144. Although die cast they're fairly light and will be a lot more practical atop a wire tripod. |

Revell did a lovely Blackhawk in 1/100th, but it's sadly out of production at the moment. |

Have you looked at the Ambush Alley forums? One of the guys there had made a flight stand for a Blackhawk out of some florist's wire, it looks like a 'Fast Rope' rig. |
