I'm looking at expanding a small bunch of "Minifigs" N scale moderns. I really like the figures, but there seem to be some gaps in the range (as there would be for any range).

Any recommendations from other TMPers on who makes good N scale modern tanks, infantry, APCs/IFVs and planes?

Thanks,

Greg

Apologies to Greg B. I don't want to sidetrack your posting, but since it is about N-scale figs I thought I might jump on-board. I have been considering the N-scale Vietnam range by Minfigs. Anyone used N-scale for gaming? How do the N-scale figs measure-up to 10mm or 15mm?

I use N guage for gameing. I think its as good as it comes. We originally used 25mm plastic but needed a scale to play larger games. We went through the lot 6mm, 10mm 12mm (N and 15). We decided on 12mm as:-

6mm far to small for our needs impossible to turn individual turrets and to fiddley for even small urban areas.

10mm ok but very small vehicals are really not playable.

12mm (in volume which is how you percieve size they are 1.6 times bigger. The final analysis was that we could just use the Wiesel which is as small a vehical as we thought we would use.

15mm This can cover a multitude of sins from 20mm to real 15mm. Expensive (more than 1/72 plastics) and not sufficient a size gap to our 1/72 armies for our taste.

Our experience is growing in 12mm. We were supprised, with a bit of artistic licence it is even possible to play in small urban areas with relative ease. However in a big urban (say 20 buildings as per a 1/72 game) its limitations show. However for big games focusing on mechanised battles it is SUPERB. We use minifigs for the stuff we can't get in pre-painted plastics and it fits right in.

I have been collecting n-gauge/scale figures and vehicles for use in a smoke jumper forest fire game. There are lots of figures and vehicles available. Even military. Get samples as there is as much variation in size as there is in 15mm and 25-28mm

Some of the Can.Do and Pegasus ranges found on eBay will work.

They are 1/144th scale, but close enough for government work.

I think the Minifigs stuff is 1/160th, if they keep to true scale, so about 10% smaller. That usually means a difference of one millimeter, or two, which in my opinion looks fine together.

You can get M-1's, M-2's, MLRS', Russian tanks (sadly no APC's/IFV's yet), West German/German tanks, and helos in this scale. They also make modern Japanese armor in this scale as well.

Use 1/144th scale for the planes, if desired.
