Howdy y'all!

I picked up a copy of Amush Alley at Origins 2009 as I heard so many good things regarding the game here on TMP.
I'm liking it a lot, but have a problem entirely unrelated to the game – all my figures are my existing collection of Battlefield Evolution infantry and a mix of BF:Evo vehicles (M1's, shadows, technicals and Tunguska) and Forces of Valor/Dragon 1/72 scale kits (more M1, T-72, AAV7, and M2 Bradleys).

I'd like to add supporting weapons to the infantry on both sides, but I'm not sure which goes better with the Battlefield Evolution figures – 25/28mm or 1/72 / 20mm?

If I'm looking for supports such as snipers, GPMP, HMG, AGL and RPG for both USMC and middle eastern 'insurgents'. Any recommendations on which route to go?

Some of the plastics look good, but I've not painted soft plastics in ages – are there difficulties to overcome?

Thanks in advance!

25mm/28mm goes best for the figures.

Stuff from Mongrel and Mofo tend to fit very well with BFE. In a pinch, you can add in TAG figures and maybe the Devil Dog figures. I haven't tried Foundry's Street Violence with the BFE figures, but my guess is that they will mix as well.

And the discontinued Stargate SG-1 Figures from Phoenix also fit very well with BFE figures. Eureka modern 28mm should also fit as well.

Larger 28mm (like the ones from Scorpion) will not fit--since they're actually 32mm or more in size.

20mm stuff does not fit at all. It is far too small. You can, of course, always switch over completely to 20mm--which is what I'm doing with my moderns.

The BFEvo figures are closer to true 25mm than the 28mm they claim. I believe they measured from foot to top of head rather than foot to eye.

They're going to look very small against 28mm and 1/48 scale stuff and they're larger than 20mm and 1/72nd scale stuff.

You may need to look for some Corgi 1/64th scale stuff. Also there was some Matchbox military stuff that should look good with it.

The BFE stuff is actually 1:64 more often than not. You can get away with some 1:72 materials if you don't mix them in the same unit. The BFE Challenger is actually smaller than the FOV and Dragon versions. The BFE infantry is a head or so taller than my Casesar and Liberation figs and is the same size as the Corgi Tac Strike infantry.

Will send you a PM in this regard.

Actually, they are 28mm foot to eye, but they are very slender sculpts, which makes them look smaller in stature than many "so-called" 28mm figures. It comes down to which manufacturers tried to stick close to the 28mm measurement, and those who went for oversized "heroic" sculpts but called them 28mm for marketing purposes.

Just a follow-up to my previous post. These guys fit perfectly with BFE figures.

The USMC have older kit, but nothing some head swaps wouldn't cure.

Also, these figures are made by the same sculptor:

Should be lots of support choices there.

Now, if you do decide to chuck the 28mm BFE figures and build up a 20mm force, it's tough to get better quality than Liberation Miniatures. I picked up a set of these recently and was very impressed with the sculpts and attention to detail. They also have a very wide range of figures.

They also go very well with the 1/72 diecast vehicles from Forces of Valor and Dragon.

I still keep my 28mm figures around for occasional skirmish/roleplaying games, but substantially all of my moderns will be done using 20mm figures. The guys at the Ambush Alley forums will have a lot of sample of 20mm figures and kit and you'll be able to see well-painted examples there.

Good hunting!

I've used Eureka. I don't know if they have anything you want but if they do, give them consideration – very nice figures.

Thanks guys!

Looks like Mongrel, MoFo and TAG are figures I need to check out.

Its really a case of needing that handful of support weapons. We'll muddle through with what we got for now.

I really like the Mongrel figures. Is there a US supplier?

RJ Andron09 Jul 2009 5:15 p.m. PST

svsavory, I'm in Canada and I've ordered some Israelis direct from Mongrel. I had no problems with the order and it arrived very quickly. The service from Mongrel is excellent in my experience.
