I don't know my way around moderns so I have to ask. I want 28 mm soldiers wearing berets, without rucks and with sirts tucked into pants, no BDUs. Any suggestions?

The Assault Group has some African Mercenaries that fit your description. MoFo (Gripping Beast Moderns) have a couple that might do in their Falklands and Mer ranges.

Gripping Beats has some in the Argentinian range of Mo-Fo.

Foundry Mercenaries from their modern range.

The Mo-fo figures are in jackets, shirtsleeve order being the exception rather than the rule in the Falklands.

You don't state what you want them armed with or what sort of setting. Copplestone have Guards in Berets as part of their KKBB range. They look like Castro jackets but I'm sure they would pass as shirts.

I ordered the guards from Copplestones KKBB range. Thanks all, and especially Still Lucan. I was looking for prison guards from late in Alex Raymonds stint on Flash Gordonso weapons would be impossible on a stock figure. The Copplestones will lend themselves to scratch-built weapons.

So what is BDU, LBE and what are rucks?

flooglestreet13 Jul 2009 7:03 a.m. PST

I'm sorry I thought that was common knowledge in the hobby, at least in the 20th Century and near future facets. BDU is Battle Dress Uniform, the US Army's standard uniform in the 1980s to 2000 or thereabouts. Its a camoflage copy of the Vietnam era boonie fatigues, which itself was a near copy of the US Army's paratrooper uniform of WW2.
LBE is Load Bearing Equipment. That includes the backpack web belt with canteen(s) ammo pouches etc and the heavy duty suspenders that secures the pack and belt on the soldier. A ruck is a rucksack or extra large back pack which the infantry is cursed with.
For what its worth, I don't know what a castro jacket is.

One of those nylon hip length bum freezer jackets usually with knitted sleeve cuffs , beloved of truck drivers and security guards. What connection it has with Fidel, Raul or even Ruy Castro I have no idea.
