anyone one else reading Forgotten Voices of D-Day, I am nearly finished the book, and so far I have rather enjoyed it. Does anyone know why certain names have been omitted and left with only an initial and underscore afterwords, e.g(D_____) Contacted the publishers but they don't seem to know either, you think they would. |

The respondents probably asked not to be identified. It used to be a common courtesy in publishing. Nowadays it's probably led by the fear of litigation |

Sometimes it involves something that the participant might not wish to be known for- Mark Bando, in his book of tales of the 101st in which there are details about things like prisoner shootings etc., has changed names, but made up a list of the correct names etc., which is sealed until after his death (whch would then be after all the WW2 vets have passed) and will then be turned over to one of the major Army archives. |

"Forgotten Voices of D Day" is not a book I've picked up yet but in terms of "forgotten" round about the 65th D Day anniversary I was able to take the opportunity, while on holiday, to visit the British war cemetery by Lake Bolsena in Italy. About 600 graves, British and South African, virtually all from action about June 15th/16th 1944 and therefore contempraneous with D Day and its immediate aftermath. May I commend Holland's "Italy's Sorrow" as a book to read after "D Day's Forgotten Voices" |
