I don't believe there are any official rules for artillery, but I put these together for myself and a few customers:
The Firepower infantry and cavalry rules are available in their respective box sets. These rules are an unofficial addition to the system to represent artillery. Rules concerning deployment and sequence of play are covered in the infantry/cavalry rules. An artillery unit (battery) consists of 1 gun model and 4 crew figures.
March! (moving artillery batteries)
Models in the game represent deployed batteries. To move a gun, roll one six-sided die and subtract 2. The crew may push the gun model that number of inches in any direction, pivoting as desired. Measure from the gun model and place the crew as desired. Crews may always push their gun 1 inch, though guns may never cross obstacles.
Fire! (shooting with artillery)
Targeting rules are the same as those for infantry units. Roll one die for each crew figure and four dice for the gun model, for a total of 8 six-sided dice with a full strength crew. If the target is within 6" a die roll of 2+ scores a hit. From 6" up to 12" a die roll of 3+ scores a hit, and so on, as summarized below:
Within 6" 12" 18" 24" 36"
2+ 3+ 4+ 5+ 6*
* Rifled guns only
Remove a figure from the target unit for each hit. Roll one die for figures in cover and for artillery crew figures. On a roll of 4 or more, ignore the hit.
Morale Tests and Retreats
Test morale per the infantry rules, with the following exceptions.
- Each artillery crew hit counts as 2 models.
- Only artillery crews retreat. The gun model remains in place.
Charge!
Artillery batteries may not charge. When charged by an enemy unit, the battery fires normally in the first round of combat. In subsequent rounds, count only the crew figures in the combat, and roll one die per crew figure.
Rally! (Rally broken units)
Artillery crews retreat as infantry. Until rallied and reunited with its gun model, a crew may not fire. Once the crew rallies, it marches as infantry (2 six-sided dice) to rejoin the gun model. On the next turn, the battery functions normally.
