I am looking for a set of rules that will fit the following criteria. They will be used with individually based 10mm figures, so ground scales are unimportant as I will be rescaling anyway I guess. 1-Easy to remember systems 2-Need to work for solo play 3-Linked games/campaign system available 4-'Period' feel, with options for different theatres/wars I suppose I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea. Suggestions and reasons gratefully accepted. |

If you're interested in moderns at all, I'll blatantly self-promote Ambush Alley. It has solo-rules that get a lot of customer praise and the mechanics are simple and uniform. It has several linked scenario campaign packs available, ranging from the real life events in Mogadishu during (and a little prior to) Gothic Serpent to several scenario packs set in a fictitious locale. The game has been used for everything from NW Frontier, to IWI, to various hostilities in the post war era. |

You didn't mention which periods, but the Two Hour Wargames stable is worth a look. There is material for just about any period, and they excel at solo playability and campaigns. Give the free Chain Reaction 3 set a look to get a feel for them. The "full" period-specific rules have campaign systems with quite a bit of depth. Are there any periods in particular of interest? - Bob |

Ambush Alley and Force-on-Force. It ticks all your boxes as a campaign system is being developed and plenty of supplements are planned to give that 'period' feel. Note – Im biased. Im writing the Vietnam supplement for AAG, but to be honest I dont think I would play any other skirmish game now I have the stuff from AAG. Gives me everything I want from a skirmish set. |

Song of Drums and Shakos (Ganesha Games) for small skirmishes and Sharpe Practice (Too Fat Lardies) for larger? |

"Song of Drums and Shakos" is a nice, fast and very easy to learn Napoleonic Skirmish Game; I think it can work very well "solo" using 10mm miniatures. |

Sorry about that! It just showed up as a message on the Solo Games board for me! In the immortal words of Gilda Radner: Never mind! ;) |

Any set of skirmish rules will work if the figures are individually based. Take your pick. |

Thanks for the replies. Obviously I should have mentioned a period! Was initially looking for 1750s – 1820's. AA and FoF look interesting and no doubt I will have a look at them. (Would they work for games set between 1930 and 1940?) I have downloaded the THW CR3 free set and will have a read through. How much more detailed are the time specific sets? |

The other sets are definitely flavored more towards the periods and are far, far richer. You can also download some of the older versions of the rules. 6 Gun Sound is definitely worth a look. The new version is a massive improvement though, so just use it as a hint. - Bob |
