A couple of months ago while passing the TD store at one of the UK shows I finally succumbed to the 1/600th madness. JTF600, at the time, said it would take over my life. Ha! I laughed.

Current project is doing one F-4 from each of the squadrons in the osprey Mig Killers books (Part 1 and 2). 9 Models in book 1 so shouldn't take too long.

I've just started doing the VF-92 "Silver Kite 211" (90% finished)

VF-96 is the next one in line and was started at the same time. I've only got as far as the tail art so far. Rest of the markings are done, I just don't have the time to finish off this week

These models are being painted up to use with the Downtown rules which I am endeavouring to convert to minis.

Very nicely done. I like the tutorial too but don't have time to read it all till later.

Very nice. I am doing some TD aircraft for Vietnam also. Yours put me to shame. The tutorial is great. I am going to look it over very closely.

I'd call you insane for putting that much detail on them, but I'm attempting the same thing!

Brilliant decal work, by the way. Very inspirational!

Just finishing Showtime 112 for the black falcons (which took about half the time as the first one). Okay so I lied when I didn't have time. (Thats a fib really, I don't, I will just have to catch up 2 hours overtime this evening)

The decals took about 20 minutes to add start to finish and I made up enough for 4 aircraft at a time (from the same carrier) and just picked the ones I wanted.

Problem is now though that I look at the earlier models and think about when I am going to redo them!!

I am wary about putting them through the dullcote treatment though. They have been acrylic varnished but there is always a worry.

I've never had a problem with Dullcote. some other brands, yes, but never Dullcote from Testors. You should be fine.

Panic over, Testors works. The shot of the VF-96 Black Falcons F-4J is also up as well as the RF-8 (still need to look at the decals for the aft section it seems a bit bare compared to the others.

I'm following your conversion of "Downtown" to miniatures as I've been pushing it around for the same reason. Nice job so far.

Now, if I could just find a Korean War equivalent of "Downtown".

Not much difference, IMHO, from the base rule set. The Elusive Victory set uses the same downtown mechanisms for a later period.

When looking at periods it is useful to take a stock take of why you want to do the period – What floats your boat.

Is it Migs Vs Sabres in which case you don't want a raid scale game.

If you want to do US and Commonwealth carrier operations then the downtown mechanism could be made to work same applies to B-29 operations.

Air to Air mechanism is just with guns, the hard work would be the aircraft data cards but that wouldn't be too much hard work.

Bombing and target operations etc should be straight read across. As to scale, aircraft are significantly smaller than that in DT or EV so a smaller hex size could be used. It would also be quicker as you only have the AAA to contend with and not SAM and EW aspects

The combined operations where the UN forces attempted to cover B-29 operations with F-84 escorts and F-86 CAP is what I'd be interested in regarding Korea.

I keep plugging away at my conversion of "Downtown" for VN and it is interesting to watch your efforts (you are doing an excellent job).

Due to the number of photos etc I have had to split the page up into

Fighters (and their Recce versions)
Attack
Support (including RA-5s)

Just added some shots of VA-146 and Allen57 and I have been having a conversation about CVW-16 which is starting to take shape on the same page

USN Support Aircraft has had some work done on it (old photos though)

Just added some earlier work on the A-6 Intruders to the USN Attack Page

This was my first foray into the work of making my own decals so the placement and scale is off (I tried a couple of ideas out on these as you can see).

Downtown normally only allows you to field a total of 4 flights of these (two SEAD and two strike) which is a pity as they are beautiful models
