A friend of mine is currently going through the Officer training pipeline, and has final orders to Ft Wainwright, Alaska (25th Infantry, IIRC) as a Stryker platoon leader. I'd like to build him a Stryker platoon. What I'm looking for are suggestions for manufacturers. I need 43 troops, including 4 Javelin ATMs, 6 SAWs, 3 DMRs, 3 M203s, and a pair of M240s, plus 4 Strykers. I know QRF makes the Strykers. Who makes modern US Army soldiers with M4s? |

In 15mm Not sure how you ID an M16A? I like the Old Glory (CD) ones. |

Hey, if those guys at Battlefront can sculpt the difference between an MP40, the Italian M12? and a Thompson, I'm sure someone can handle the difference between an M16 and an M4 (yes, Stryker companies are supposed to be M4s, got the FMs from Global Security in front of me). I'm willing to do a little conversion work, but not every single mini. |

Rebel has some US troops coming out that may work. Not sure of the release date, but the greens look pretty darned good so far. Peter Pig has US Marines that could be painted in an ACU pattern and would work. QRF also has modern US that could be painted in an ACU pattern and could work. I think in this scale an M16A2 will look enough like an M4 that you could get away with it. |

Battlefront sculp a PPS that looks like a MP 44 so i'd find another example. |

I would suggest dropping Rebel Mike a OM and ask when he plans to have his new line of Americans available. His new figures have more up to date gear than Petter Pig. If you need them now, the Petter Pig minis are nice. Jeff |

Cannon Fodder makes a really nice Javelin team. |

Were you to do it in 20mm, you'd find Caesar probably do the most accurate US troops around, M4 armed. Cheaper option than 15mm lead and IIRc Trumpeter and another company do 1/72 Strykers. Much better visual appeal. |

? Every metal model has to have a thicker barrel just to survive handling. Granted, some are way too thick, others less so. You mean the 'acquired' MP40s that the Russians used (not the StG44-armed Germans)? ===== What I mean is, I can tell the difference between a BF soldier with Garand, BAR, and M1 Carbine. There's a significant difference between an M16 and an M4 (like 6" of barrel and 8" of handguard!), which should be a recognizable difference in 15mm. Then there's the different uniform and body armor. ACUs have pockets in different places than the older BDUs, and the most important detail: eye protection! I don't think I've seen a single Soldier, Sailor, or Marine in photos over there without either a pair of the Wiley-X or Oakley ballistic shades over their eyes. ===== I'm firmly bound to 15mm for this, got too much other stuff built to look at another scale. email inbound, Geoff. |
