As some of you may know I have been painting up the Irregular miniatures model of the above.
The painting is done and the basing is almost done.

I have a few more questions though if you can help.

1: Are the trees as shown on my latest post in the right place?
2: What was the haystack like?
3: Does anyone have links to a layout of the gardens?
4: Have I wasted 100 hours on this project or is it all worth it?

I think you have wasted 100 hours…just kidding!! Great looking buildings. What scale…6mm??

Angel Barracks29 Jun 2009 3:44 a.m. PST

6mm indeed.

I think the BattleGround book on Hougomont has a full garden layout, but I am not certain.

Its a lovely model, and if you enjoyed the work and the modelling and like the end result, then it is more than worth it.

And congratulations to your wife for buying it; a lady of excellent taste!

I've seen detailed plans on Peter Hofschroer book and David Chandler Waterloo books.

There was a large orchad in front of the castle (the part pointing to the French advance) which made the use of artillery nearly impossible for the french.

BTW, very nice and beautiful. Good work in it.

It is worth it, as far as I am concerned.

The only slight criticism might be that the un-whitewashed bricks in Belgium were IMHO fired from clay, including the walls, but that would make me a bastard if I pointed that out.

Lovely job – can't wait to see the farmhouse.

Cheers,

Lawrence

plutarch 64.

Very true but I decided early on that I wanted my walls to be different to the main buildings and also to match my other walls that adorn my gaming table. Plus they stand out a bit more at 6mm.

plutarch 6429 Jun 2009 4:23 a.m. PST

Yes, agreed.

Plus, if you can resist the temptation to actually stick them down, you will have another ten (or at least, five) buildings to deposit on a wargaming table.

They look great, and I can't wait to see what you do with the "farm-house". Please keep us posted.

Cheers,

Lawrence

Nice job.
BTW, in the 100 hours work, you count the photograph hours?
:)

Angel Barracks29 Jun 2009 4:51 a.m. PST

No just paint/build time.

Photo's not taken that long tbh.

Clay the Elitist29 Jun 2009 6:06 a.m. PST

Looks great Michael. I have Aitkans Waterloo Companion which has some massive detail on it. But any of those other books mentioned will do. Do you have access to any of them?

Excellent Michael, that last flock layer brings it to life.

Thank you very much for sharing it and taking the time to take photos and make the tutorial. Please let us know how you make the gardens and orchad.

One question, those trees seem railroad modelling ones, right?. Which brand?. The smallest one in the North gate too?

Angel Barracks01 Jul 2009 12:25 p.m. PST

The trees are indeed but a well known wargames company sell them too.

picture

top ones, pricey but nice.

Very Nice Angel

Broglie10 Jul 2009 2:08 p.m. PST

Main buildings were whitewashed plaster I believe not brick. There used to be a wonderful model in the Waterloo visitors centre which claimed to be based on a lot of research and it showed white plastered whitewashed buildings.
