Hiho. I started painting my KGL line infantry under the impression that their trousers would be(whenever not replaced by whatever they could find) the typical white. Now I was made aware of a sentence on kgl.de stating that the entire infantry had grey trousers. There is no mention of dates though. I quote: "All of the infantry had long grey trousers, booties and gaiters." The two Ospreys have only a few pictures that fit the time of the Peninsula campaign and the most relevant one shows the parade dress trousers which are white. So, what would it be during Peninsula? Grey or white? Regards and thank you in advance for your time. P |

IMHO either plus brown and maybe even blue or even black if times were hard. However, somebody will have the dates when grey became the standard issue although I understand white was preferred in summer. |

Well, as far as I know the grey colour was not standard during the Peninsula campaign, at least not during most of it. My question was rather if the KGL had grey trousers even in the early times of Peninsula and therefore standing out in comparison to the rest of the regiments. |

Hmm. I guess I'll go for white then and hope it's right

In the Peninsula after a few months they wore whatever they could get hold of or patched what they could. |

Brown, white, gray on campaign in Spain anything is close enough. |

I recall reading that the British officially went grey for overseas duty in 1811; I would assume the same would apply to the KGL. However, all of the above posts are infact correct. |
