I am starting on the task of reorganising my 15mm Napoleonics (as over the years I seem to have amassed hundreds and hundreds of figures, but all based for different rulesets)

I have decided that I will be using one of the grand tactical rulesets so am looking for any pictures of 15mm figures based for such systems.

What looks best? Figures grouped in the centre of the big base or spread to the edges, with or without scenery bits on the bases, figures spaced out a bit or rigid shoulder to shoulder? In formed lines or staggered? All sorts of options.

Need to see what other people have done to get some ideas….

Depends if you're using the full 3" square bases or a reduced scale. If using the 3" I'd probably put a line or skirmishers deployed in front and 2 columns side-by-side behind. If using a reduced scale (like 2" square bases), I put them shoulder to shoulder in a 2 or 3 rank line. I've seen pictures where people spread the figures out haphazardly around the base – that's OK if they're supposed to be irregulars or skirmishers, but not for formed troops (IMHO).

That being said, AJ Wright's blog has lots of pictures of Volley and Bayonet Napoleonics played in 15mm on 2" square bases (ie – "2/3rds scale). Here's some pics: link

15mm AB French based on 3"x3" squares for Grande Armée, mostly in 'mini-columns' of two battalions (3 figures wide, by 3 ranks deep), with skirmishers out front: picture ; picture .

I use 2x2 squares for my 15s. With the equivalent of one "Empire" battalion on each. When I was thinking of using 3x3 squares I was going to put two battalions on each one, but by going 2x2 I saved a lot of minis, a lot of painting, a lot of $, and a lot of table space!

Thanks for those links guys, some great looking bases and figures on there. Those images really make me wish I had the space to play GA or V&B in full scale.

Don: I know what you mean about the saving in table space, that is proving critical for me. As for your bases, are they suitable for "Empire" as well?

D6: email on the way, thanks.
