Does anyone using Adler wash their figures before painting? If so, what do you use? Maybe it really has been a long time since I got Alder figs direct from Adler and not 2nd hand off ebay, but when I cleaned off any flash and cut them up for basing, I noticed they leave a fair bit of powder on my fingers. I had this with some terrain a while back, washing up liquid and water did the trick. |

Never needed to do it with metal figures but resin and plastic moulders sometimes use a releasing agent to help remove the model. This is a poor surface for paint. I always wash resin and plastic. As it is only a few minutes work, wash the metal castings for peace of mind. IR1 |

These days I soak a batch in hot water with some dishwasher rinse aid added to it then rinse in hot water and blow dry on a paper towel. I'll admit it may not be strictly necessary but I always feel safer doing it – the grease left by fingers after handling to clean flash etc can do as much damage to paint adherence as mould release on small figures. |

I wash everything for the same reasons as tony gives above – just hot soapy water and an old tooth brush, dry on paper towel and leave overnight – or hair dryer if things are more urgent. |

I echo what normsmith said. I use distilled water, dish detergent and an old tooth brush. I do rinse to get all the soap off after washing and them lay out on a paper towel to dry overnight. I do it on all my figures from 1/2400 up to 15 mm. |

I have very rarely washed my adler 6mm -- usually only for a short period after reading something on TMP
But i can't say i have noticed any difference when painting them up either way. Now GHQ on the other hand

I never washed a metal fgure in my life, never found it neccesary, though maybe you just got a batch with too much release powder on it |

Never washed any of my Adler minis, but on the other hand I use Humbrol enamels for base coat – in my head at least it disolves any residues. :-) |

I wash all my figs in Dawn dish detergent, then soak them in vinegar for a couple min if they are really dull looking. Then rinse them in clear water and let dry. |
