I have painted quite a few regiments of my 28mm Napoleonic Austrian cavalry. I have misplaced the original packet from one regiment which would tell me if a unit is Cheveauleger (in white dress) or Dragoons. I can't tell from the figure. My figures for Dragoons and Cheveauleger look identical to my eyes.

Without resorting to detective work, using an ORBAT and facing colours, do any other Elite mini fans have an idea of how I can spot the difference?

There was no difference between the uniform for 'white' Chevaux-leger and Dragoons. Manufacturers generally just offer one figure to cover both.

Actually, the only difference I can think of from memory (I just moved, my books are still in boxes) are the bridle; "Hungarian bridle" (crossed, like the Austrian Hussars) for the Chevaux-Legers, regular ones for the Dragoons.

Having said that, like SauveQuiPeut said, manufacturers usually offer one horse figure to cover both. I don't know if Elite does both variations.

That is interesting. I expect they are the same figure. All told I have about 10 regiments. If I'd thought about it I could have put more in green jackets, since i can double white jacketed dragoons as cheveauleger.

er, actually, I suppose the difference in this case would be that Elite probably gave heavy horses for dragoons and light for cheveauleger. I will leave these units until last and see what is left from my horses.
