We received a teacher's school supply catalog yesterday (old mail for the previous homeowner), and I decided to thumb through it on the odd chance there might be some useful stuff for gaming. I found this: link (Flexible magnetic tape.) I wonder how this stuff would do as a strip stuck on the bottom of bases? It seems thin enough to not cause the bases to stand high or wobble, and would be easy-peasy to apply. My main question is whether it would be durable enough and strong enough to hold minis and bases to a metal surface securely enough for basic transport use. Probably not for 28mm stuff, but smaller scales or plastics
maybe? Anybody have experience with this stuff (and/or know other suppliers that might be even cheaper)? |

I bought mine from a local craft store some years back ( though I have since lost the roll in moving). the stuff I had, has very strong magnetic power. I could take a 28mm metal mini on a base and stick it upside down to a metal sheet without it coming off. and the adhesive was descent as well. I got around 10 feet for about 26 bucks. However that has been a few years ago so I may be out to lunch on that. Cheers. GeorgeD. |

Ahh! looking at the stuff in your link it looks like its a lot thinner than what I was using. The stuff I got was at least a millimetre thick,15-20mm wide and is used for fridge magnets. GeorgeD. |

The problem with magnetic tape rolls is that they rarely loose that "curl" and you have to end up using a stronger glue to hold them down to a container. As small bases
they tend to work fine. I have stopped using the rolls all together as Walmart carries a 77 cent pack of flat sheets that break into individual strips. They work like a charm. |

Fir 28mm figures you would need 'vehicle grade' magnetic strip – I doubt that this is strong enough. Also the good stuff can be bought cheaper from a number of suppliers. |

I don't like this sort of tape for 28mm figures. It betrays you just when you need it to hold and you wind up with chipped figures. I use stronger, thicker magnets for 28mm. |

It's not strong enough. Trust me on this. It's meant to hold little bits of paper onto a magnetic board, not heavy metal objects. You need a biggish strip to hold a chromosome up. |

(Flexible magnetic tape.) I've seen the same stuff sold in the dollar stores, although with various "cool for my locker" art on them. The thicker type is sold at Wal-mart in the crafts section. |

There are at least 2 types of magnetic tape. The thick type, 1+mm, which is strong enough to easily hold 28mm figures upside down. This type, 0.5mm thick. The magnet is weak and will barely hold 15mm DBx elements upside down. The glue is even weaker! I actually prefer this as the strong magnetic tape holds my 15mm figures too tight and are difficult to remove from the storage tray. This is just strong enough to prevent the figures shifting in the trays. |

Go down to the local signage store and ask for magnet sheet for car signs, They usually have some left over/scraps they will sell, sometimes cheaper than normal prices, as they want to get rid of it since it can't be used for car signs. At least, that's what I do . . . |

Walmart has stronger rolls of magnets. You get more and for a cheaper price. Ravens Forge idea is spot on too. |

JoAnn's has 8X11 sheets of magnetic sign material. I use them to line the bottom of my plastic boxes and mount the figs on washers. Seems to work pretty well. Suppose you could do it in reverse ? |
