OK, so i have a WWW2 project and i want to make a couple of sniper teams wearing such suits. I am thinking that some surgical gauze, cut to the right shape, soaked in white glue and draped over the minis, then painted and with flock and leaves added should have the right effect. I remember there was a GW tutorial somewhere but i can't find it on their new site (we can't be bothered to try to). Anyone with experience of this, thoughts, etc? |

For the gauze, I would recommend soaking it in a water-PVA mixture rather than pure PVA, which is too thick. Once it is dry you might want to give it a coat of varnish to stiffen it up before painting. Leaves could perhaps be made out of oregano or other suitable herbs, sprinkled on the gauze when it is still wet. Griefbringer |

So i am on the right track you think? i seem to remember the GW one had a metal gauze, but i think that would be a pain to try to make sit right. |

Cheese cloth or gauze does the trick. Make sure to put some green paint (or whatever) with your glue/water mix. Trying to paint all the white cotton after its dried is a royal pain. Use flock and static grass to match your terrain for that authentic look. |

Is this the sort of thing you are after, my son made some for his WH stuff link Simon |

Cpt Clegg Like them, very nice. Thanks for sharing. DJButtonup Thanks for the paint tip, i have a big tube of green acrillic paint which is just begging to be used in this project. I was going to water the wood glue but thanks for the heads up. Griefbringer Like the varnish idea as well, may well be using that one. |

Don't forget, the suit should be shorter at the front and longer at the back, with seperate trousers and face veil. Most of your snipers time will be spent moving in the prone position, and if longer than waist length at the front becomes difficult to crawl in. |

I made some 15mm ghillie-suited snipers, and it was the easiest thing in the world. I just took a prone figure, then slathered on some green putty and shaped it to cover his head and body. Then I scored the putty with a knife to give it a hair-like appearance. It took me maybe 15 minutes, and I think it looks great. What's cool is that I've got it on a base (for CWC) with some brush, rocks, and fallen logs. At fist glance it looks like there's nothing there but foliage, but if you look very closely you can see the little guy. |

Capt Clegg very nice
not what I would have done
but that is why we share
I like it alot actually. I have made 30+ 1:1 snipers bush robes while in the USMC. We used burlap strips, folded over, sewn in, then you pull out the last third of each strip (1-2'). We made dozens of loops throughout the ghillie suit to allow for new, fresh, or different local flora to be easily inserted. For 28mm I would try Capt C's option or go with basic cotton packing cord
cut into 1/2" sections, dye or paint to soak (go with three colors for pattern break), once dry attatch starting at the lowest point and move up (with super glue), once set go back and fluff out, removing any lengths that are out of place. For any scale smaller
apply glue and flock. An actual ghillie suit picture picture is more a collection of coarse threads that break the shape of the human form and allow for shadowing when next to a solid; do you see the guy in this pic? picture Best of luck. |

If the figure is lost in the terrain, he counts for the next guy who plays there |

That's why he's on a base: it lets you see where he *should* be. |

Just remember, no black on the suits. Respectfully, Norman of Torn

Just get some bases and flock and finish them as you usually do. YouTube link |
