I guess the title says it all.
I was into the rules very heavy a few years back, and was very disheartened when they just kind of left them high and dry…
I was wondering if there was anyone out there that still played them?

If you have it, and have figures, and enjoy playing it, what's the problem?
I don't get this "no longer supported" thing.

I remember your posts on the Yahoo group Murph. You were extremely frustrated with RAFM. I had a similar situation with Excelsior and Warzone.

Thanks,

John

We still play it a couple of times a year.

Dan 05525 Jun 2009 9:53 p.m. PST

I have the rules and a bunch of their figures (still unpainted) but intend to play it sometime soon. I don't care if nobody else is (except my opponent).

I don't get this "no longer supported" thing.

Me neither.

Did they stop producing the models? There are other manufacturers making Vietnam figures.

Have them, love them, whats the problem?

Lord Flashheart26 Jun 2009 2:10 a.m. PST

I still use them and play a few times a year. Mainly big games mind and just used them a month or so ago as a basis for a Cold War game.

We play them and love them. Support is something you call over the radio. Three games played last month at the local club. Pictures from our last game can be seen at: link

I played it pretty heavily for a year or so, but it just wasn't doing it for me, so I wrote FNG. I occasionally pull out C Co with a couple of friends, but it's lost teh shine for me.

I play at least twice a year at WPI, maybe a convention or two, and a random game if I can find a space.

Not having a play space of my own has kinda put a damper on most of my mini gaming.

My standard players have been busy making babies so I am looking to make a new group from the WPI players.

retzlaffmd26 Jun 2009 8:45 a.m. PST

my group plays a couple of times a year; would play more if we could find copies of the rules, only 1 person has 'em in our group.
Like the system though, may adapt it for sci-fi if I can get a copy…

RAFM has never stopped offering the game or the miniatures line.

Our group get together and play them a couple of times a year.

its a shame its a great system and could be adapted for other modern periods , part two of the rules is available for free on the charlie company yahoo group ( posted by Kurt ).

maybe RAFM should sell the rights ….

Smiley27 Jun 2009 10:50 a.m. PST

Amazing how "certain" people ignore the fact that it's still available from the publisher. Calling it a shame and making unauthorized editions for free over the internet. I'm sure that sort of thing will convince the publishers they have a viable product to market.

Jemima Fawr27 Jun 2009 11:16 a.m. PST

I agree. What on earth does 'unsupported' mean?

I regard the lack of 2nd Editions and 'Additional Rules' as the mark of an excellent set of rules, as they clearly got it right in the first place and obviously have no desire to fleece the loyal customer base!

Griefbringer27 Jun 2009 12:48 p.m. PST

However, my copy (printed 1997) seems to mention in the back supplements Reference Screen and Scenario Pack One, complete with cover art and text "Keep your ears to the ground – COMING SOON!".

Were these ever actually published?

I've played a couple of times at Cons and have the rules & a bunch of minis painted. The terrain is what's holding me back from running it more often.

Sterling Moose28 Jun 2009 3:48 p.m. PST

No Griefbringer they weren't – hence the continuing debate about lack of support.

Supposedly there was supposed to be a gamemasters screen, and a scenario pack…
Neither happened.

I do still enjoy the game rules, and wish that Rafm had gone further with it. The additions would've been nice…

Weasel29 Jun 2009 6:18 p.m. PST

I dont know if the lack of a 2nd edition means it was perfect.

GARY SEVEN JNR30 Jun 2009 2:30 a.m. PST

it needed a second edition as the 97 version missed out one of combat charts .

the author officially posted the rules add on on the yahoo group , it was not an ''unauthorised edition '' .
