Does anyone have a basic guide for suggested (Vallejo, preferably) paint colors for 1918 British infantry?

Helmet, web gear, uniform, etc?

Uniform and helmet cover, khaki.

Webbing, tan (GW bubonic brown is a good match).

Boots & bayonet sheath, black.

job done.

Boots and leather equipment were dark brown throughout the war. Some officers had tan holsters. My grandfather certainly did, I still have it.

Some illustrations seem to show black boots. Was there any distinction, or is this just portraying very, very dark brown?

My guide with GW colors

Paint uniform Graveyard earth
Paint webbing and gas bag Kommando Khaki
Paint leather pouches Dark Flesh, Highlight Vermin Brown
Paint rifle wood with Scorched Brown, Highlight with Beastial Brown, and then Snakebite Leather
Paint helmet Kommando Khaki or Catachan Green (I mix for variety)
Wash everything in Devlin Mud
I reapply highlight of Kommando Khaki, Snakebite Leather, and Vermin Brown to the various parts
Paint skin and metal bits to taste

Hope that helps.

hi
I use the following basic recipe for BEF:
Uniform: Basecoat of Vallejo leather brown, Vallejo english uniform & add vallejo Khaki to English uniform to highlight.
Webbing: base English uniform, add Khaki as above, then final highlight of pure Khaki.
Helmets: can be either green, brown, Khaki Drab or grey.
Helmet covers: Base leather brown, drybrush khaki, drybrush beige.

Leather jerkins: base of Citadel bestial brown & dark flesh mix, highlight with bestial brown, Final highlight of Bestial brown & Vallejo orange brown mix.

That site had an answer to by boots question.

Apparently each soldier was issued two pairs of boots; one brown for field use, one black for dress; the dress boots were often used in the field.

I'm going to take a stab at WWI Canadian's around September 1916. I want to keep things simple, as I tend to paint more than necessary and doing a whole new army is not usually in my powers, we'll see. I'm going to try Foundry paints but already own most GW as well as some Vallejo. Foundry is a mail order for me here in Canada, but the other brands I can get locally.

I do mine (all Vallejo):

Uniform: Brown Violet (base) English Uniform (highlights)
Webbing: Khaki (Base) Buff (Highlights)
Helmets: Bronze Green (Base) Bronze Green + White (Highlights)
Boots: Leather (Base) Leather + White (Highlights)

Any equipment is painted Bronze Green as above, except Vickers barrel covers painted Khaki. I have 15mm figures and don;t see much point in more than one highlight.
