After two unsuccessful assaults over the last two weeks the Russians were finally able to breach the fortress walls for good and capture Ismail.

The Ottomans put up a desperate defense and caused massive casualties against two out of the three Russian attack columns.

On the right, Brian's column took devastating fire from Arnouts taking cover in a wooded knoll. At least three regiments were lost trying to take out the stubborn Arnouts.

In the center, Mike's column was shot to peices attempting to come to grips with the center of the Ottoman defenses. Jaeger, Grenadiers and several line regiments too heavy casualties, and never breached the walls. Greeks, Janissaries and heavy cannons ruined their assault. The Greeks were especially skillful at shooting the attackers to peices.

General Markov (newly appointed commander of the left assault column) was the key to victory. His skillful attack against the Ottomans won the day!! He was able to drive off the Sekhan troops manning the walls in front of his command with fierce musket fire and sharp bayonets, and then smashed the only Ottoman reserve, which was another Janissary unit. The entire Ottoman defensive line collapsed at that point. The walls were breached for good and the Russians began their revenge.

Great game, and we finished in about 1.5 hours.

Eric,

Great photos.

The Turkish Heavy gun section, who produces the model? That is a massive gun.

Thanks Robert!

It is a wicked gun isn't it. :-)

I believe it is from Essex, but I can't remember. The crew is Essex, just not sure about the gun.

Din,

I checked the 15mm Essex Renaissance listings and the heavy guns are with solid wheels. I could see two of these guarding a waterway passage a la "Guns of Navarone".

Cheers,
Robert
