I will be vacationing in Massanutten Va starting 6/26. I was wondering if there are any stores that sell wargaming stuff in the area. We will be touring the New Market battlefield while we are there. |

Last I recall there wasn't much if anything, certainly no historical miniature shops. I could be wrong. The only thing I know for sure is if you want good terrain contact Doug Kline of Battlefield Terrain Concepts ( battlefieldterrain.com ) and see if you can stop by to see some of the best terrain you'll ever have the opportunity to buy. |

Granted, he's in Roanoke, VA, which is a bit of a trek, but totally worth it. |

Dragon's Hoard in Staunton is good for Sci fi, GW and terrain, really good shop. LOTS of Flames of War. In Charlottesville, we have a small amonunt of GW stuff at a shop called The End, and two nice hobbyshops, The Game Place, downtown, full line hobby shop that carries GW and War machine, and a decent amount of plastic models, plus a limited amount of Ospreys. We also have a Hobby town which has a ton of 1/72 armor. These are all about 45 to 60 minutes from Massanutten. Alas, no dedicated historical Shop! Hope this helps, Bob Deane |

Thanks guys, All the shop sources around me (Philadelphia area) have dried up over the years. I used to buy at Jenkintown Hobby, but sadly Bob and Josie split up and the business went with the marriage (at least that is the story I was told). Some of the local Allied Hobby Shops used to carry Avalon Hill, Victory Games and SPI. In fact I got my first taste on miniatures from an Allied Hobby shop in NE Phila that sold Fire and Fury. I thought "This is rally cool!" Bought it and went back and bought their last bag of minifigs (and I mean their last bag as they did not restock). Then I found Jenkintown with Stone Mountain and Essex (later OG) and saw a brochure for Cold Wars. After that I was totally hooked. Sad to see that there are so few opportunities outside of fantasy stuff (although it is good to see a trend towards adding FoW stuff to the fantasy lines). |
